Laker guard Kentavious Caldwell-Pope wore an ankle monitor for multiple games in 2017. This was primarily due to a traffic stop in March 2017 for suspicion of driving under the influence while speeding at 70 mph in a 25 mph zone while still with the Pistons in Michigan.
Those accusations were dismissed, but KCP was found guilty of allowing someone to drive under the influence, thus the ankle monitor.
He allegedly did not comply with the Michigan court’s drug and screening order and instead petitioned to serve his term in California, in a correctional camp geared toward rich offenders.

Consequences
Caldwell-Pope received a 12-month probation sentence,
which included repeated alcohol and drug tests that he failed, resulting in a 25-day jail sentence.
KCP served his time in SoCal in the Seal Beach police department detention center while on work release,
which allowed him to leave the center to attend home games and practices.
He couldn’t leave California at the time, and he had to do breathalyzer tests after games and training. If he had failed that exam, his sentence would have been prolonged by about three months.

Fortunately for Caldwell-Pope, this had little impact on his business both on and off the court,
as he signed with LA in the first few weeks of free agency.
That’s when we saw him on the floor in Los Angeles while wearing an ankle monitor.
He was suspended for the first two games of his rookie season in Los Angeles, but he went on to start for the Lakers in the 25 games he was able to play in.
On 43-38-79 shooting splits, Pope would average around 13 points, 5 rebounds, and 1 steal.
KCP then agreed to a one-year, $12 million contract extension with the organization,
making him one of the Lakers’ key role players at the start of the LeBron James era.
His second contract was a two-year $16.6 million deal, and he would go on to play a key role in the Lakers’ 2020 Championship Run,
averaging 13 points and 3 rebounds in the star-studded Finals battle, earning a three-year $40 million extension from the organization.
KCP, who joined the Nuggets after being traded by the Lakers,
hopes to give that role-playing 3-and-D experienced game as they strive to climb the ladder to deliver the trophy to Denver.
