Peyton Manning’s Misguided Legacy
Peyton Manning’s legacy had been diminished by the 2019 season.
Drew Brees dethroned Manning as the league’s all-time moving yardage leader and will almost certainly break Manning’s passing score record.
Tom Brady won his sixth Super Bowl, confirming that he, not Manning, is the most famous quarterback of all time.
The most common criticism leveled at Manning’s career is his inability to maintain a high level of play into the postseason.
The only evidence to support this claim is the difference in wins between Manning and Brady— a faulty method of assessing quarterback ability.
However, the narrative has spread to the point where it is now ingrained in the minds of most football fans.
Peyton is a good regular-season quarterback, but he stinks in the playoffs.
As a result, Tom Brady must be better. Right?
Instead of acknowledging that both players are legends who cannot be fairly analyzed due to numerous external factors.
All of these factors influence a quarterback’s victory.
However, fans on both sides attempt to smear the opposing quarterback in order to elevate their favorite quarterback’s status.
While the debate was previously balanced, Brady’s three Super Bowl victories in the last five years have silenced any slander of Brady’s abilities.
Instead, the blame has been shifted to Manning.
