The novel explains how Hopkins and Petronella’s (or Peta in the book) relationship was frequently tumultuous due to their prior drinking problems.
One night, a neighbor heard frantic screaming coming from Peta’s chamber.
When they arrived at the location, they discovered Anthony fleeing down the street.
Meanwhile, Barker returned from the basement “in a condition of near hysteria, claiming Tony (Anthony) was attempting to kill her.”
According to the story, the actor sat on her head and tried to suffocate her.
There was apparently some damage noticed in the bedroom, with items scattered here and there.
