Professional Career

Peja began his professional career as a member of a club team.

He first joined Crvena Zvezda, popularly known as Red Star Belgrade, when he was fifteen years old.

During his time with the team, he played two senior seasons and won the FR Yugoslav national championship.

Peja later joined the Greek League club PAOK Thessaloniki when he went to Greece at the age of sixteen.

He stayed with the team for four years, winning the Greek Cup in 1994–95.

Sacramento Kings

Peja was selected by the Sacramento Kings in the 1996 NBA Draft.

They selected him 14th overall in the first round. He did not, however, begin playing for the squad until 1998.

Despite spending two seasons on the bench, Peja won the 2001 Most Improved Player Award.

New Orleans/Oklahoma City Hornets vs. Indiana Pacers

Peja was moved to the Indiana Pacers in 2006 after eight years with the Kings.

He was only with them for one season before being traded to the New Orleans/Oklahoma City Hornets.

He was a member of the squad for four seasons, setting new marks each year.

Dallas Mavericks and Toronto Raptors

Peja joined the Toronto Raptors in November 2010 but barely stayed for two months before being traded to the Dallas Mavericks.

He spent an entire year with Dallas before announcing his retirement.

The first national debut of National Team Peja was with the FR Yugoslavia national basketball team.

He won bronze with them at the 1999 FIBA EuroBasket.

Following that, he competed in the 2001 FIBA EuroBasket, winning gold under his own name.

Peja was named to the FIBA World Championship All-Tournament Team the following year after winning the event’s MVP award.

Post-Playing Career

Predrag Stojakovi announced his retirement from the NBA on December 19, 2011, after a successful career.

His career was cut short owing to persistent back and neck issues that made it difficult for him to play.

Peja was named Director of Player Personnel and Development for the Sacramento Kings more than three years after his retirement.

In 2018, he joined the Stockton Kings, the Kings’ NBA Development League franchise, as General Assistant Manager. Peja has already stepped down by 2020, the team said.

Injuries

Throughout his career, Peja has suffered various injuries, the most serious of which has been a back injury.

He was out for thirteen games in the 2006-07 season due to injury.

Furthermore, the same ailment was one of the primary reasons for the Hornets’ decision to trade him to the Raptors.

Due to his injury, Peja missed a total of 26 games during his two-month stint with the Raptors.

He’s also had a number of brand endorsement deals with major corporations such as Reebok.

He also helped Stojakovic Children’s Foundation in collaboration with IOCC.

They contributed a total of $1 million to this cause.
