Ultimate Fighting Championship
A bad start
Cote made his UFC debut at UFC 50 on October 22 against Tito Ortiz. Cote talks about his first crazy experience when he met his idol from childhood.
He had a perfect 5-0 record in his MMA career up until that point. But Cote was defeated by a unanimous decision in the third round.
Officials from the UFC were impressed by Cote’s toughness and willingness after he agreed to the fight on short notice.
Later, in 2005, he made a second UFC appearance, where he dropped both of his fights.
The Comeback from The Ultimate Fighter
Cote participated in The Ultimate Fighter: The Comeback’s fourth season in 2006.

First Success and Title Shot
Cote won his first-ever UFC fight at UFC 67 on February 3, 2007. In the third round, he won by a unanimous decision over Scott Smith.

At UFC 86, he defeated Ricardo Almeida to make it four straight victories. He later received a shot at the title.
