Who is Nyjah Huston?

Nyjah Huston is a well-known figure in the skating industry. Nyjah Huston has had a rollercoaster journey in his life to get to where he is. His life path includes being born and raised in the mountains in a strict Rastafarian home, being compelled to pursue skating, becoming a skateboarding sensation at the age of 11, and being the cause of his parent’s divorce.

Nyjah, on the other hand, skated through these difficulties to become one of the most famous and highest-paid skateboarders in history.

He is now widely recognized as the most famous modern skateboarder.

Nyjah Huston Early years

Nyjah Huston was born in California on November 30, 1994.

His mother, Kelle Huston, and father, Adeyemi Huston, raised him as their youngest son.

He was born into a mixed family, with her mother being white and his father being black and Japanese.

He wore dreadlocks as a youth because he was born and raised in a Black and Rastafarian family.

Nyjah has four siblings, three older brothers, and one younger sister.

Abhi Huston, Kiade Huston, and Jahmai Huston are his brothers, while Isha Huston is her younger sister.

How did he become interested in skateboarding?

Nyjah Huston’s skateboarding career was inspired by his father.

His father skated in high school and encouraged his children to do the same.

His father forced all of his children to skateboard, and Nyjah began skating at the age of five.

He created ramps throughout the yard and even purchased an indoor skatepark for himself in 2003.

His father used to film him skating and edit the films so that they could be seen by others.

The trying period

Huston’s father relocated the family to the mountains of Puerto Rico in 2006.

He used Nyjah’s earnings to purchase the 26-acre property.

Nyjah claims he has no idea why his father took such a bold step.

He claims he did it because he was interested in females and partying at the time.

His father wanted Nyjah to concentrate only on his career.

He had to endure terrible living conditions.

He didn’t have any pals there, so he used to skate all day.

His mother homeschooled him and required him to maintain a strict vegan diet.

His distance from California has caused problems with his sponsors, Element Skateboard because he was unable to make public appearances or participate in team activities.

He was on the point of getting cut from the team.

This caused a schism between his father and mother. This resulted in the divorce.

His father then asked him to reside with him.

So his mother and siblings fled, leaving Nyjah alone with his father.

Nyjah returned to California with his mother after his mother won custody of him in 2010.

He hasn’t heard from his father since then.

His battle did not finish there, as the family faced financial difficulties. He was gifted at skating.

So he entered various skateboarding competitions in order to win first prize money and support his family.

Skateboarding Professionalism

Nyjah Huston began his professional skateboarding career at the age of 11.

He was the youngest X-Games competitor in history and was sponsored by Element skateboards.

He made his skateboarding debut with the company’s crew, where he appeared in several of their skate vids.

He did, however, leave Element in 2008 to launch his own skateboard company.

He founded his company, I&I, in 2009, but things did not proceed as planned.

As a result, following the demise of I&I, Huston returned to Element to resume his professional skating career.

He made a great solo video and even won the Best Video Part award from Transworld Skateboarding magazine.

He competed in the Street League Skateboarding (SLS) in 2010, where he became the skateboarding champion, a title he maintained from 2010 to 2016.

His skateboarding career began to take off when he won many tournaments.

X Games in the Summer

He earned a gold medal as a street skater at the Summer X Games in Los Angeles in 2011.

He won gold and bronze in the real street and street categories the following year.

The 2013 Summer X Games were memorable for him since he won three gold medals in the street category.

The next year, he earned another gold medal in the competition.

World Championships of Skateboarding

At the 2014 World Skateboarding Championships, Huston competed in the street category.

He won a gold medal and was crowned World Skateboarding Champion.

Hoston had to settle for silver medals in the competition for the next two years, 2015 and 2016.

Finally, in 2017, he earned another gold medal in the World Championships.

Since then, he has won gold medals in a row.

Tokyo 2021 Olympics

Huston made his Olympic debut in Tokyo in 2021.
