Nikola Pekovic, a Montenegrin who stands 6’11” and weighs 300 pounds, was a sight to behold from the moment he arrived.

Two years after being selected in the draft, the big man would sign with the Minnesota Timberwolves in 2010.

After a lackluster first campaign, Nikola would learn and begin to improve year after year.

Pekovic would hit his peak in the 2013–2014 campaign, averaging 17.5 points

and 8.7 rebounds per game while being dubbed the NBA’s strongest player by several rivals.

His intimidating appearance, tattoos, and enormous build all contributed to his commanding presence.

Unfortunately for Nikola and the Wolves, following his best season,

everything for him would turn sour, costing him a $60 million contract.

Over the following two seasons, Pekovic would only play in 43 games due to injuries,

and at the age of 30, he would finally give up basketball.

Career Change

Pekovic’s life would be empty after his early retirement, so he began socializing with sketchy characters back home.

Nikola earned the moniker “The Godfather” for good reason since even when he was playing,

there were rumors that he was associated with some dubious characters.

But after retiring, Pekovic’s connections to them only grew more obvious.

One of the most prominent drug lords in Montenegro, the Saric brothers,

are close friends and business partners of Nikola.

Even though Nikola wasn’t present, the Belgrade police would once seize a car loaded with weapons and drugs that were registered in Pekovic’s name.

Although there is no concrete proof that Nikola Pekovic is currently a drug lord or mafia in his native country,

there is no doubt that he is involved in some shady activities and has connections to potentially harmful figures in the industry.

Talk about a radical change in lifestyle and career.
