Early Career

At Lambrick Park Secondary School, Nick participated in interschool baseball.

He participated in the 2010 Under-18 World Championship as the pitcher for the Canadian Junior National Team.

However, due to an ulnar collateral ligament injury in his right elbow, he was unable to play baseball during his senior year of high school.

Similarly, he participated in college baseball with the Thunderbirds while attending the New Mexico Junior College.

Because of his outstanding pitching performances in both his first and second seasons, Baseball America ranked him as the sixth-best junior college prospect in 2013.

His fastball can reach 97 mph, and Perfect Game USA ranked him as the third-best junior college prospect.

Professional Career

Nationals of Washington

In the fourth round of the 2013 MLB draft, the Washington Nationals selected Pivetta.

He was enrolling in the New Mexico Junior College at the time of the selection.

Nick didn’t participate in the Major Leagues, though.

He first made his professional debut in a minor league game with the Gulf Coast Nationals, the Nationals’ affiliate team in the Gulf Coast League.

2015–2016 Philadelphia Phillies

On July 28, 2015, the Washington Nationals exchanged Nick for Jonathan Papelbon and sent him to the Philadelphia Phillies.

He also had a 3.41 ERA and 111 strikeouts, both of which were sixth in the league.
