In November 2010, the athlete signed a National Letter of Intent to play college basketball for the University of Arizona.

In 2010–11, he guided Findlay to a 28-4 record as a senior. He had a 6.5-rebound, 24.8-point, and 4.7-assist average per game.

With an ESPN.com scout grade of 96, Rivals.com ranked Nick as the No. 40 overall prospect in the country and the No. 8 shooting guard.

Later, he was named to the first team of the Long Beach Press-Telegram reporter Best in the West.

He concluded his career as the 24th highest scorer in UA history with 1,333 points. In 38 games, he averaged 16.3 points, 4.1 rebounds, 2.8 assists, and 1.1 steals in 33.1 minutes per game.

On April 15, 2014, he declared for the NBA draft, one year before his last year of college eligibility.

NBA Draft 2014

On June 26, 2014, the Houston Rockets selected Johnson with the 42nd overall choice in the NBA draft.

He signed with the Rockets on July 25, 2014, after averaging 12.5 points per game in the 2014 NBA Summer League.

Several times throughout his rookie season, the player was assigned to the NBA Development League’s Rio Grande Valley Vipers.

Johnson, Kostas Papanikolaou, Joey Dorsey, Pablo Prigioni, a 2016 first-round draft selection, and financial considerations were traded to the Denver Nuggets on July 20, 2015, for Ty Lawson and a 2017 second-round draft pick.

Nick was dismissed by the Nuggets on October 24, 2015, after appearing in six preseason games.

Fans were angered by Nick’s lack of playing time as a rookie, especially during the playoffs when Jason Terry and Pablo Prigioni failed on defense.

During the season or in practice, however, the player did not get enough time on the court to feel comfortable.

Spurs of Austin

On December 28, 2015, the Austin Spurs of the NBA Development League acquired Nick. Johnson averaged 10.4 points, 3.7 rebounds, 2.9 assists, and 2.4 turnovers per game in 34 games for Austin.

During the season, Nick wasn’t feeling well. When I saw him, it was evident that he had returned too soon after missing time due to a knee injury.

Furthermore, anyone familiar with Johnson’s extraordinary athleticism could tell something wasn’t quite right.

He only had four dunks on the season and shot 46.8% in the restricted area (the league average was 62.6 percent).

Bayern Munich

Johnson has agreed to a contract with Bayern Munich of the German Basketball Bundesliga until October 29, 2016.

He signed with the Orlando Magic on September 8, 2016, but after only four preseason games, he was dismissed on October 22.

On November 2, 2017, Johnson was named to the Austin Spurs’ 2017–18 opening night roster. After helping the Austin Spurs win the G League championship, he was awarded Finals MVP.

He was signed by the San Antonio Spurs and played four preseason games before being dismissed. On November 18, 2018, the Austin Spurs re-acquired him.

Turkish Telekom & Winscoin Herd

On January 16, 2019, the Wisconsin Herd acquired Johnson in exchange for Travis Trice’s right arm and a second-round pick in the NBA G League Draft.

On March 22, 2019, Johnson joined Nanterre 92. On September 5, 2019, he signed with Türk Telekom of the Turkish Super League.

Johnson averaged 11.6 points per game, 3.7 rebounds, and 4.3 assists per game. He re-signed with the team on October 27, 2020.

On July 30, 2021, he joined Nanterre 92 of the LNB Pro A.

Nick experienced a calf injury in 2015 that may have forced him to miss the whole Las Vegas Summer League season.

Playing through injury while on the NBA roster is a completely different experience than playing through injury while trying to make the NBA squad.

Johnson tried it throughout the season and failed, but it demonstrates that he is a fighter willing to go to any level to keep his NBA dream alive.

Position

Nick has spent his entire career as a 6-foot-3 shooting guard with a mediocre outside jumper, and he was promoted to lead guard at the age of 23.

Johnson is an accomplished player, a rim-attacking danger, and a gritty defender who graduated from the University of Arizona.

He’s still young and has room to grow as a point guard.

Johnson was in a precarious situation. Despite some glimpses of brilliance, his size forces him to choose between point guard and shooting guard, and his skill set is now more skewed toward a shooting guard than a point guard.

Basketball Skills

Johnson showed some of the qualities that made him one of the most dangerous players in college basketball while at Arizona.

Johnson had his ups and downs along the way, averaging nearly four turnovers per game in addition to his 7.4 assists.

Johnson is still an exciting guard who has the ability to completely change the tone of a game in a matter of seconds.

Because he’s a slasher who can attack the rim, his game is better suited to the NBA style, but an NBA deal at the start of the season is improbable.

He’s improved his overall jump shooting, improved his dribble jump shot consistency, and learned how to handle the ball in the pick-and-roll.

Born into a Basketball Family

Johnson’s father, Joey, and uncle, Dennis, are both former NBA players and members of the Naismith Memorial Basketball Hall of Fame. Joey Johnson is a three-time NBA champion and member of the Naismith Memorial Basketball Hall of Fame.

In 1987, Joey “Jumpin” contributed to the College of Southern Idaho winning the NJCAA national championship. Johnson earned an all-L.A. City selection two years ago at Banning.

Despite the fact that Johnson averaged 16 points per game, Arizona-bound guard Eric Cooper was Banning’s most highly regarded player.

At 11-foot-7 with a remarkable 52-inch vertical jump, Johnson, the younger brother of NBA Hall of Famer Dennis Johnson, formerly held the world record for dunking on the highest basket.

In a pub in Moscow, Idaho, he made his most famous leap. He sprang from a standstill and bent a nail put on the wall in honor of former University of Idaho player Gus Johnson, standing 11 feet 4 inches tall.

Fortitude

Nick is a good athlete who has a good build, good body control, and enough length. He has a good two-footed leaping ability.

In practically every aspect of his game, he’s a savvy basketball player with textbook basics. Nick has a compact jump shot that he can hit from up to 25 feet away with consistency.

He possesses a good open-court game, exploding and elevating his shots well. Nick is a gliding-style leaper that looks to glide in the air and can finish powerfully above the rim.

On his slashes, he uses his shoulders and hips to effectively separate the ball from defenders. One of his favorite activities is wearing pull-up jumpers.

Nick is a good wing passer and has the tools to play spot minutes at point guard at the next level. He’s not hesitant to make contact and gets to the foul line quickly.

Wife

Riley Singleton and Nick Johnson are in a relationship. She was also a basketball player in college. However, it is unknown whether or not they are married.
