Natalie Portman is a talented Israeli-born American actress. Natalie Portman has won the hearts of millions with her roles in a variety of films. Closer, V for Vendetta, The Other Boleyn Girl, Black Swan, No Strings Attached, and Jackie are just a few examples.
The actress won 38 Best Actress awards, including one at the 83rd Academy Awards, for her performance as the ballerina Nina Sayers in 2010’s Black Swan.
Her 38 award nominations were the third most in the Best Actress category.
Portman is currently back in the spotlight, reprising her role as Jane Foster in Thor: Love and Thunder, the fourth installment of the Marvel Cinematic Universe, which will be released worldwide on July 8, 2022.
Jane Foster, played by Natalie Portman, appeared in the first two Thor films as the brilliant astrophysicist and girlfriend of Chris Hemsworth’s Thor.
And, after missing the third Thor film, Portman’s Jane returns in the fourth.
But there’s a twist this time, as Portman’s Jane returns as the Mighty Thor.
People have already seen the trailers, TV spots, and numerous posters for the film, which is set to be released on Friday, July 8.
And one thing appears to have changed with Portman’s Jane: she appears to be bulkier and taller than she was in the first two films.
Furthermore, Portman’s physical appearance is muscular and taller.
Natalie Portman’s height has been discussed
Portman is much smaller than you may have seen her on-screen or in Thor: Love and Thunder.
In real life, the actress stands 5 feet 3 inches (1.6 meters) tall.
Keira Knightly revealed Portman’s exact height in 2004 while discussing her meeting with The Sunday Mirror.
As Knightly spoke about different things, she talked about their height difference and said, “There is a huge height difference.
My height is 5 feet 7 inches, and hers is 5 feet 3 inches.”
Portman, on the other hand, doesn’t seem to mind being shorter or being told she is shorter in real life.
“The first thing people always say to me is, ‘You’re so much shorter in person,’ she said during one of her interviews.” ‘That’s really nice and friendly,’ I think.
Concerning her height on-screen, directors or showrunners may use various techniques to increase Portman’s height to fit the character she is portraying.
The same was done to her Jane Foster character in Thor: Love and Thunder.
Portman’s Jane was supposed to be taller and bulkier than the Mighty Thor in the fourth Thor film.
She worked out and gained muscle for the bulkier part, and CGI assisted. However, other techniques had to be used to elevate her.
Portman grew from a 5-foot-3 woman to a 6-footer thanks to director Taika Waititi and his crew, who set up a “deck” about a foot above the ground.
When Portman had to share the screen with her real-life taller cast members, she would walk on the deck while CGI did the rest of the work.
“We’d rehearse the scene, they’d see the path, and then they’d build a path that was like one foot off the ground or whatever, and I’d just walk on that,” the actress explained to Variety.
“I definitely grew to my largest size. ‘Oh, this must be so different, walking through the world like this,’ you think.
“As a 5-foot-3 woman, I doubt I’ll ever be cast as a 6-foot character again; I really enjoyed people seeing me as big,” Portman added.
Natalie Portman, did you lose weight for ‘Black Swan’?
According to various reports, Portman weighs approximately 53.5 kg (118 pounds).
When the subject of her weight comes up, one of the most common questions is whether she lost weight for her Academy Award-winning role in Black Swan.
Yes, Portman did lose a significant amount of weight, 20 pounds to be exact, to play the role of Nina Sayers, a ballerina in the 2010 film Black Swan.
The Jerusalem native lost weight by following a strict diet similar to that of a real ballerina.
According to a Reddit thread, Portman’s diet consists of a couple of grapes for breakfast, salad for lunch, and another couple of grapes for dinner.
She also trained as a ballerina, and as a result, she lost weight, dropping from 118 to 98 pounds.
Darren Aronofsky, the director of Black Swan, was later concerned about Portman’s 20-pound weight loss.
“At a certain point, I looked at [Natalie’s] back, and she was so skinny and so cut,” he told Access Hollywood in late 2010.
‘Natalie, start eating,’ I said. I made certain she had plenty of food in her trailer.”
When the filming wrapped, Portman returned to her regular diet, hoping there would be no reshoots.
“I was like, pasta, pasta, pasta!” she said in one of her interviews. There will be no exercise. It happened pretty quickly.”
“I was prepared to leave the ballet world. ‘Please don’t let there be reshoots… because I don’t think I could get back into the costumes!’ she added.
And her wish was granted because there were no reshoots, and Portman returned to her regular diet and regained the weight she had lost.
