Growing Pains
Antwain Ellis, Monta’s older brother, was his basketball hero growing up, as was previously reported. Monta may always look up to Antwain as a role model.
However, a circumstance flipped Antwain’s life on its head, which in turn turned Monta’s life on its head as well. The closest friend of Antwain from high school was fatally shot and stabbed.
He has long served as the support system for his two younger brothers.
But following the tragedy, he was lost. After the incident, Antwain quit basketball and had a difficult time getting back on his feet.
Monta’s brother started smoking marijuana. Monta, who was perhaps 11 or 12, was frightened of his brother at the moment.
When Monta saw his brother, he frequently lost it and started crying uncontrollably. The player spent a lot of nights crying because of his brother’s struggles.
The realization that everyone was ignoring his sibling altered Monta’s outlook on the world. He was going through a difficult period. The player felt like a shell as a result.
Monta claims that because he had cut off all contact with the outside world at the time, he did not experience childhood.
High School and College Career
Ellis went to Lanier High School and Rowan Middle School. He developed a strong passion for sports early on and participated in a variety of them.
In tennis, he ranked first at Rowan Middle School. The player also never dropped a game.
In football, he was the go-to guy for two-point conversions as well; nobody could outjump Monta, so he threw the fade. He was also the best goalkeeper in soccer history.
But Monta’s greatest talent was as a basketball player. The youngster had already made a commitment to Mississippi State University after high school.
He later had a change of heart and decided to pursue the NBA draft.
As a senior in 2004–2005, Ellis guided Lanier to its second state title in four years.
For his achievements, Ellis was chosen as the 2005 EA SPORTS National Player of the Year and Parade co-Player of the Year with Greg Oden.
Professional Career
The Golden State Warriors chose Ellis with the 40th overall pick in the second round of the 2005 NBA Draft.
From 2005 to 2012, the athlete spent the majority of his career with the Warriors until being traded to the Milwaukee Bucks along with Kwame Brown and Ekpe Udoh.
Similarly, Monta played with the Milwaukee Bucks for one season before joining the Dallas Mavericks as a free agent in 2013.
The same is true for Ellis, who played for the Mavericks up until 2015 before being moved to the Pacers.
Accidents and setbacks
Monta endured injuries much like many other seasoned basketball players.
After suffering a Grade 3 high ankle sprain, a torn deltoid ligament, and a left ankle syndesmosis dislocation in August 2008, the player was forced to miss at least three months of play.
These wounds on Monta all required surgery. The motorized scooter collision caused the injuries.
But he made matters worse by lying to the Warriors about getting hurt while playing pickup basketball in his native Mississippi before coming clean about it a few days later.
He was consequently suspended by the Warriors for 30 games without compensation, which matched the number of games he was expected to miss as a result of the injury.
Similar to this, from late February to early March 2010, Ellis missed six straight games because of a back problem.
Then, from the end of March to the beginning of April, he missed seven straight games because of the infection.
Additionally, on December 10, during the Indiana Pacers’ comeback victory over the Portland Trail Blazers, the player suffered a groin strain in the first half.
Due to a strained right groin, he then missed the eight games that followed.
Singing
Monta is skilled not only in basketball but also in singing. He used to have the loudest voice at Pacers practices and would sing, laugh, and joke around.
Yes, Monta can sing. Many of you might not be aware of this. His grandfather belonged to The Bright Stars, a gospel quartet.
Ellis and his cousins created the Junior Bright Stars, a group that performed spiritual songs while dressed in tuxedos, carrying on the family tradition.
These boys had stopped being a ruddy poo. According to Jonas James, Monta’s middle and high school coach, “They could sing.”
James continues, “Once they started singing ‘His Eye Is On The Sparrow,’ the spirit would get moving.
Fishing According to Ellis, fishing is a nice activity on any given day. Ellis, a young boy growing up in a turbulent environment, found peace in the sea.
Fishing was the only solace Monta had at those times when he had built high walls around himself and kept others at a distance in order to protect his peace.
Disputes
Ellis became embroiled in a scandal after Erika Ross Smith, a former employee of the Golder State Warriors, reported the team and him for sexual harassment in Alameda County.
She said that Ellis sent her offensive messages, including suggestions for sexual encounters and pornographic images.
After being suspended for his involvement in a moped accident, he also became implicated in another issue.
Monta Ellies also made headlines for breaking the league’s anti-drug policy. Because he tested positive for marijuana use, he was suspended.
Marital Life
Monta Ellis is married and has children. Ellis’ wife is Juanika Amos. In Memphis, she is a police officer.
He is six years older than Juanika. In 2006, the couple first met in Memphis, Tennessee, Juanika’s hometown.
After four years, they decided to get married. The marriage ceremony took place in 2010 at Memphis Boulevard Christian Church.
They remain as deeply in love with one another more than ten years after getting married.
Monta wrote a message on Instagram on Juanika’s birthday expressing his love and gratitude for her.
Additionally, the duo has two children from their marriage: Monta Jr., a boy, and Maila Jai Ellis, a daughter.
Physical Characteristics
Monta Ellis maintains his active lifestyle by exercising frequently.
The American player is also 6 feet 3 inches tall and 84 kilograms in weight.
However, it is still unknown what Monta’s other physical characteristics are.
In a similar vein, the player has tattoos all over his body. Black Monta has black eyes and black hair.
Tattoos Ellis enjoys getting tattoos. His body is covered in tattoos, each of which has a special meaning.
Ellis’ tattoos also express his love of his family and career in basketball.
Monta has a huge tree tattoo on her chest. On the leaves at the top of his breast, the phrase “Family First” is etched, signifying that this is a tribute to Monta’s family tree.
This tattoo features leaves, branches, bark, and roots. It is decorated in the manner of a Christmas tree with ornaments such as an angel, a Star of David, Chinese calligraphy, and a baby’s face.
On his right arm, Ellis also has tattoos of flames, a devil playing the flute, and a large “BOYZ” written in old English.
The player’s right arm is inscribed with the capital letters “GEORGETOWN.”
Ellis’ back also features the cursive word “Faith,” the Golden State Warriors logo, a dove, the number 72, a diamond, his initials, a box, and a palm.
The Golden State Warriors, with whom he played his first six NBA seasons, are honored by this unique body art.
