She has also created blockbuster shows such as Champions, Four Weddings and a Funeral, Never Have I Ever, and The Sex Lives of College Girls. Never Have I Ever Season 3 recently concluded on Netflix, with Season 4 set to premiere in 2023.
Kaling’s schedule is nearly non-stop as an established actor and program creator. But it has never stopped her from carrying out her personal life duties, which include caring for her two children.

The Cambridge native has two children:
a daughter named Katherine Swati (born December 15, 2017) and
a son named Spencer (b. September 3, 2020). Spencer was born in the midst of the pandemic, and Kaling had no idea she was pregnant.
However, that wasn’t the only thing no one knew, as it’s still unknown who Kaling’s children’s father is.
And the reason she hasn’t released that detail may go beyond privacy concerns.
Kaling stated her commitment to her daughter in a June 2019 interview with The New York Times.
“My view is that until I talk to my kid about it, I’m not going to talk to anyone else about it,” she said.
But don’t worry, she doesn’t have a husband.
The news came during the comedian’s 43-year-old interview with Today in late October 2020.
During the interview, Kaling discussed her The Office co-star B. J. Novak’s influence on her children’s lives.
Former lovers Kaling and Novak now enjoy a terrific connection,
and Novak is even the godfather of Kaling’s children.
“You know, he [Novak] said the craziest thing because he’s so devoted to my elder child,
my daughter,” Kaling explained to Today before admitting her lack of a husband.
“When I said, ‘B.J., if something happens to me, it’s not like I have a husband
like you have to simply take the kids,” she explained. ‘Oh, my God, don’t tempt me,’ he says.
Finally, Kaling told Today that Novak has always taken his responsibilities as a godfather seriously.
“He said the most amusing thing: ‘Can you sue for god-paternity rights?'”
“He simply adores her [Kaling’s daughter],” the actress continued.
Mindy Kaling may never marry.
Kaling may just remain a single parent to her two children, as it appears she will never exchange wedding vows.
During a 2015 interview with Good Housekeeping,
she stated that she wanted to marry and have children when she was younger,
owing to her parents’ happy marriage. However, that viewpoint has evolved over time.
“I don’t need marriage,” she stated. I don’t require somebody to meet all of my wants and requirements.
I can now take care of them myself.”
In the same interview, she discussed her connection with Novak, saying,
“I’m absolutely not in the friends-with-my-exes camp.” But B.J.
has a friend-for-life stamp. My mother adored him. He’s like family to me.”
Novak is Kaling’s daughter’s godfather, she revealed to Good Housekeeping in May 2019.
“But the truth is that B.J. is so much more like family today than a platonic friend,” she remarked.
He’s my daughter’s godfather, and he comes around about once a week.

He’ll come over occasionally just to hang out with her.
In an interview with Marie Claire in August 2022,
the actress discussed the possibility of Novak being her children’s father.
Kaling stated that the reports do not worry her and that Novak is an important part of her children’s lives.
“(Novak is) the godparent to both my kids – and they have such a beautiful relationship –
and so far (the rumors haven’t) harmed my happiness at all,
it hasn’t affected my kids or B.J.,” she stated. If that’s what people find titillating, I’ll take it.”
So there you have it. Kaling has no plans for a wedding in the near future.
She and Novak, on the other hand, are good friends who dated for a period,
both on and off-screen, but later remained great friends.
