Professional Life and Career

Dubón had gone to a lot of baseball clinics, but no one had ever asked him about playing baseball professionally in the US.

When Dubón was almost done visiting the clinics, his brother inspired him. He then proceeded to walk to a clinic in his hometown.

Dubón came to the baseball camp on June 23, 2010. He met Andy Ritchey there. Andy was handing out baseball gear that a Christian Mission had supplied.

In the USA, Andy’s family took on the role of Mauricio’s host family. Dubón also started attending Capital Christian High School, where he played baseball.

Upper School

In high school, Mauricio participated in baseball and soccer. He was content to compete against younger players. Many sports teams wanted to trade for him because of his fair and amazing games.

The Boston Red Sox

Dubón was ultimately chosen by the Red Sox in the 26th round of the 2013 MLB Draft. Players were expected to acquire their own equipment and purchase bats and gloves for the minor leagues.

Due to his financial situation, Dubón was unable to afford them. But he was given six wood bats by his older brother. Dubón eventually put them to use.

Dubón struggled during the first year. In 20 games, he batted.245, making six mistakes. The next year, he improved by hitting.320.

In just half a season in 2015, Dubón swiped 18 bases while hitting.301. Then he was promoted to Salem High. Boston dealt Dubón to Milwaukee later in 2016.

The Milwaukee Brewers

Dubón had superior abilities in 2016. In the Brewers’ system, he performed well. He batted there. 343 in 27 games with Colorado Springs’ Triple-A affiliate.

Milwaukee Brewers called up Mauricio from San Antonio Missions in October.

Dubón was in the Brewers’ system for slightly under two years. He was listed as one of the Milwaukee Brewers’ 40 players. He stood a good chance of making the team as well.

Injuries

In the Triple-A game, he tore his ACL, a knee ligament. Mauricio spent a long period ill. He grew to view losing his weight and strength as a curse.

But he stood back up. He returned in shape because he did not want to lose the baseball field, the crowd, or his first love.

The San Francisco Giants

Dubón joined the Sacramento River Cats of the San Francisco Giants in July of 2019.

Finally, Mauricio made his San Francisco Giants debut on August 29.

As Dubón became the second player from Honduras to play in Major League Baseball, he made baseball history.

On September 14, 2019, during the Miami Marlins game at Oracle Park Fellowship Day, Mauricio also discussed his time in Honduras, his struggles, and his emotions.

During his training, Dubón carried a microphone. His chats with others were captured on tape. With his teammates, he was engaging in light conversation about his life in Honduras.
