Matt Besser is an actor, comedian, director, producer, and writer. Matt Besser currently hosts the Earwolf podcast network’s improvisation-based podcast Improv4humans. Besser is best known as one of the four founding members of the sketch comedy troupe Upright Citizens Brigade, which had its own show on Comedy Central from 1998 to 2000.

Early Life and Childhood

Matt Besser was born in Little Rock, Arkansas, on September 22, 1967.

Matt was raised by a Jewish father and a Christian mother. He is agnostic. Matt is half German and half French on his mother’s side. Joe Besser of The Three Stooges was his grandfather’s cousin.

Education Details

Matt Besser was chosen to play soccer after starting on his high school team, but he instead went to Amherst College and majored in American Studies.

Matt began doing stand-up comedy there and competed in a contest judged by Judd Apatow at UMass.

After college, he briefly moved to Denver to pursue stand-up comedy, but quickly relocated to Chicago. Matt worked as a substitute teacher, a host at Carnegie Deli, and a host at Dick’s Last Resort, among other odd jobs.

Professional Career

Besser and the UCB moved on to other projects, including the opening of comedy theaters in New York and Los Angeles.

He went on to co-create and star in the MTV hidden camera prank show Stung with Redman and Method Man.

Matt currently hosts the Earwolf podcast network’s improvisation-based podcast Improv4humans. In 2011, he launched the podcast, in which he and guest improvisers perform scenes based on Twitter suggestions.

Each week, a new episode is released, with different guests.

He also appears on a number of podcasts on the Earwolf podcast network, including Comedy Bang Bang. He also hosts “The Earwolf Challenge,” a reality show in which several podcasters compete against one another.

Matt is a cast member of the comedy show Pot Humor. Along with Brian Volk, he is also the director.
