Early Life and Childhood

She was born and raised in Houston, Texas, as the youngest of three children of World War II veteran and immigration lawyer Samuel “Sam” Williamson and Sophie Ann (Kaplan), a homemaker and community volunteer.

Peter, Marianne’s older brother, became an immigration lawyer. Elizabeth “Jane,” Marianne’s late sister, was a teacher. Her father, as well as her maternal grandparents, were Russian-Jewish immigrants.

After seeing “Alan Williamson Ltd” on a train, Marianne’s grandfather changed his surname from Vishnevetsky to Williamson.

Marianne went on to study theater and philosophy at Pomona College in Claremont, California, where she shared a room with eventual film producer Lynda Obst.

Marianne ended her relationship with her boyfriend a year later and relocated to Austin, Texas, to attend classes at the University of Texas.

Following leaving Texas, Marianne went to New York City, intending to pursue a career as a cabaret singer, but got distracted by “bad boys and good dope.

Professional Career

Williamson is the author of A Return to Love: Reflections on the Principles of A Course in Miracles, which was published in 1992 and is based on Helen Schucman’s 1976 book A Course in Miracles.

A Return to Love was a New York Times Bestselling novel.

Marianne’s reflections on the book A Course in Miracles, as well as her thoughts on finding inner peace through love, are included in this book.
