NBA Career

Lorenzo used to be a point guard with his collegiate squad. In 1980, he was drafted into the NBA by the Golden State Warriors.

Similarly, the Warriors selected Romar in the seventh round with pick 141. He stayed there for three years until being signed as a free agent by the Milwaukee Bucks in November 1983.

After that, in 1984, he joined the Detroit Pistons as a point guard. However, after four years with the New Jersey Nets, he was traded.

Coaching Experience

Romar began his coaching career in the 1990s as an assistant coach for Athletes in Action.

He did, however, stay for a brief while. He was hired as an assistant coach at the University of California, Los Angeles after leaving Athletes in Action (UCLA).

During those times, he was lauded and praised for bringing in a slew of fresh players for the 1995 national championship team.

He was named head coach at Pepperdine University after a successful four-year career. He had spent three years as the head coach at Pepperdine. Meanwhile, he joined Saint Louis in 1999.

University of Washington’s Head Coach

With 15 years of coaching at the University of Washington, Romar was named the Pac-12 conference’s most tenured coach.

Romar is responsible for the Huskies’ superior status and unprecedented achievement. Romar continues to wander the Huskies and draws their success after signing a 10-year contract extension in April 2010.

Lorenzo qualified the University of Washington for the NCAA Tournament for the first time in five years as a coach in 2004.

He also led his team, Washington, to three consecutive tournament appearances in 2006.

Lorenzo joined Arizona as an associate head coach in 2017. But, without a doubt, his 21 years as the head coach of the Washington Redskins had aided Arizona at the time.

For one day, Romar was the head coach of Arizona, as head coach Sean Miller was arrested for paying a bribe to Deandre Ayton. He appears to have left Arizona in 2018.

Return to Pepperdine University
