Lee Dae Hoon

Lee Dae Hoon is a professional Taekwondo practitioner and Olympian. Lee Dae Hoon is also one of the most well-known Taekwondo players in the world. Lee made a big statement in his senior international debut, capturing gold at the 2010 Asian Games at the age of 18 years old.

On July 25, 2021, a leading Korean male Taekwondo star, Lee, announced his retirement.

Following a bronze medal loss in the men’s 68 kg event at the 2020 Summer Olympics in Tokyo.

Childhood and Early Career

Lee Dae Hoon was born on February 5, 1992, in Seoul, South Korea.

Lee began his taekwondo experience at his father’s dojang when he was a toddler (dojo).

His father, a taekwondo master in his own right, managed a taekwondo studio that became Lee Hoon’s playground.

He got child care at his parent’s taekwondo academy instead of going to kindergarten.

As a result, he began learning Taekwondo at the age of three or four years old.

Running about the academy, Lee says, helped him improve his physical stamina and put him ahead of his peers at his age.

Furthermore, his love for Taekwondo expanded exponentially as he grew up with it.

He used to run around the academy (dojang) from the first to the last lesson because both of his parents worked there.

He would exhibit his talent to his parents more because he was physically strong and knew he was good at Taekwondo.

Thus, for Lee, who was born into the game, longevity and heredity were two key factors.

Education

Lee competed for the first time when he was in the third grade of elementary school.

Not only did the athlete compete, but he also won the game.

Lee’s Taekwondo career officially began at this point.

Furthermore, his family was highly supportive of his decision and helped him to achieve his goals.

Lee once claimed that if he hadn’t been a taekwondo player, he would have pursued other sports but never worked in an office.

Lee then studied Sport, Leisure & Culture at Yongin University in Seoul and began professional Taekwondo.

When Lee was a student at Yongin University, he developed his heart and lung capacity for jogging.

Lee Joo Yoel, the Taekwondo star’s father, is his coach.

Lee Joo Yoel has been his coach since he was a child and will continue to do so until his final game in Tokyo in 2020.

Lee earned bronze in the 2016 Rio Olympics while competing at his natural weight of -68 kg.

His kicks are commendable, and they are as precise as some missiles aimed in the right direction.

According to Iran’s master fighter Mahdi Khodabahshki, a lethal combination of innate skill and extended intense training has made him “a legend in Taekwondo.”

Lee’s kick-to-point ratio is like a machine. Haby Niara, a silver medallist from the 2016 Rio Olympics, calls him the best fighter she has ever seen.

Tokyo 2020 Olympic Games & Retirement

Two-times Lee, a bronze medalist in taekwondo at the Tokyo Olympics, declared his retirement after losing in the men’s 68 kg bronze medal match.

Lee called it quits a split second after the humiliating defeat.

Lee did not win a medal at the 2020 Tokyo Olympic Games, which were held at Makuhari Messe Hall A on July 25, 2020.

Despite the great expectations of the public, Lee Dae was taken aback by his defeat. He too expected to win a gold medal, this time at the Olympics.

The 2020 Tokyo Olympics

For the sake of the younger generation, he felt sad for everyone who supported him and wished to quit doing so. Lee has been a member of the national team for the previous 12 years, which is exceptional.

Lee once remarked that playing in a national team for three years in a row was difficult.

In addition, at the Olympics, where only one person is chosen in each weight class, it is uncommon to see competitors compete in succession.

More prestigious than an Olympic medal is being recognized as the top Taekwondo player in the world and having played for the national Taekwondo team for 12 years.

After Retirement

Lee has had a remarkable athletic career, and people think of him as the “Best Player” and “Lee Hoon in Taekwondo.”

He doesn’t want to grind for the forthcoming Asian Games, Olympic Games, and other international games after over a decade. He now wishes to make space for a new generation.

Lee has vowed to further his professional expertise, coach younger sportsmen, and build another great player after retiring.

At Sejong University, he is pursuing an integrated masters and doctoral degree in physical education. And theoretically learning what he did himself.

Finally, Lee believes that a good leader is one who can communicate effectively. As a result, he is currently on his way to becoming the top coach in the world.

He was merely training and changing techniques while he was playing. Now he wants to make a player who can play at a higher level than he did before.

Wife and son

In March of this year, Lee Dae Hoon married Ahn Yu-Shinin. Ye-Chan, their two-year-old boy, is their only child.

However, we were unable to locate any further personal information about Ahn Yu-Shin.

Ahn Yu-Shin posted a letter to her beloved spouse Lee on Instagram after he resigned from games.

Lee had concerns about getting married because some people assumed that the parents’ athletes would suffer.

He had a sneaking suspicion that his career would come to an end, but his wife’s love and support revealed to him a new, better way.
