Khalil Rountree’s Childhood

Khalil Ibn Rountree Jr. was born on February 6, 1990, in Los Angeles, California, United States.

Rountree’s life was not all glitter and gold because he lost his father when he was just two years old.

Mr. Roderick Rountree was shot and died in an attempted robbery while working as the tour manager for the American R&B vocal group Boyz II Men.

As a result, Khalil was raised by his single mother and brothers.

As a result of not having a father, Khalil struggled to mature as a man.

In addition, he grew up to be an overweight child and joined a band that traveled around the country.

Due to a lack of guidance, they were like a confused adolescent, consuming unhealthy meals and smoking cigars.

However, after seeing The Ultimate Fighter with his brother at the age of 20, Khalil decided to make a change in his life.

He weighed 300 pounds when he first joined Las Vegas’ Wand Fight Team gym to shed weight.

Beginnings of a Career

Rountree began his MMA amateur career in 2011 after one year of MMA training.

First, Khalil Rountree competed in the middleweight division for Tuff-N-Uff and King of the Cage (KOTC) and had a 6-1 record.

Prior to joining the UFC, he pursued his passion, collecting a perfect 4-0 professional record while competing in the Resurrection Fighting Alliance (RFA) as an amateur.

The Ultimate Fighting Championship

Rountree battled against Muhammed DeReese on The Ultimate Fighter: Team Joanna vs. Team Cláudia in April 2016.

He knocked out DeReese in the first round and therefore won the match.

However, during the elimination phase, he suffered his first loss by submission to Cory Hendricks in the first round.

Fortunately or unfortunately, Hendricks sustained a neck injury, prompting UFC president Dana White to reinstate Rountree.

Rountree thereby took Hendricks’ place in the semi-final round.

Rountree met Josh Stansbury in the semi-finals, and after winning the round via knockout, Khalil proceeded to the finals.

At the time, he challenged Andrew Sanchez for the TUF 23 Light Heavyweight title at the UFC Ultimate Fighter 23 Finale and was defeated.

However, as an amateur, his battle was a flurry that defined his career to date.

Fight Record & Ultimate Fighting Championship

Khalil Rountree met Tyson Pedro on November 27, 2016, at UFC Fight Night: Whittaker vs. Brunson, and lost by submission in the first round due to Tyson’s rear-naked choke.

Following that, on February 4, 2017, Rountree faced Daniel Jolly at UFC Fight Night: Bermudez vs. Korean Zombie. He won the bout by knockout in the first round.

On July 16, 2017, Rountree faced Paul Craig at UFC Fight Night: Nelson vs. Ponzinibbio. He also won the bout with a first-round knockout.

Rountree was scheduled to face Gökhan Saki at UFC 219 on December 30, 2017.

However, owing to a knee ailment, Gokhan was unable to attend the match, forcing Rountree to face Micha Oleksiejczuk, whom he lost by unanimous decision.

The Nevada Athletic Commission (NAC) formally modified the outcome to no contest after it was revealed that Oleksiejczuk tested positive for clomiphene (an anti-estrogenic drug).

With all of these events, Khalil Rountree showed his prospective talent, and he also began to sharpen it with certain alterations.

He truly struggled to strike a balance between his personality and his work decision.

Rountree, Khalil Defeat Alexander Gustafsson

Khalil is a firm believer in “developing and gleaming.” Rountree was interested in meeting the number one light heavyweight contender, Alexander Gustafsson, with three weeks’ notice as a relative amateur in the sport; instead, he saw it as a perfect opportunity to grow himself.

Rountree, Roderick

Khalil Rountree was unaware of his father’s death until he was 13 years old.

The genuine revelation for Rountree was not as shocking at initially as it should have been.

But as he probed deeper into the incident, he became enraged.

As a result, Rountree gathered information on his father from numerous witnesses. More knowledge and inspiration flowed through him.

Khalil, on the other hand, was able to guide himself on the path of self-discovery and teach himself to be a man.

Positivity

Khalil Ibn Rountree Jr. is one of the most diligent, consistent, and upbeat athletes. His upbeat attitude can be contagious.

He explains how growing up with his single mother aided him in developing this perspective at a young age.

When Helen Harper (English strawweight) broke down and fell to the ground shaking during the Ultimate Fighter battle, Rountree helped her rise up and calmed her down.

Similarly, during the training show, Harper was unable to train due to an injury, so Rountree assisted her in speaking with the physicians.

Even when Saki made disparaging remarks about him, Rountree maintained his cool and waited patiently till he finished it.

Khalil Rountree | Loss of Weight

Rountree was an obese child throughout his childhood and adolescence, with a maximum weight of 305 lb.

From any aspect, he did not appear to be destined for the Prizewinning Athletic business.

Khalil was constantly on the road with the music industry.

He used to make living selling stuff on tour with metal bands like Impending Doom, The Acacia Strain, and August Burns Red.

When he came across MMA, his brother pushed him to try it jointly.

However, when he revealed his ambitions to his music industry colleagues, they scoffed at him. They even said he will end up looking like Bob Sapp.

Despite the jokes, he worked out for 11 months and shed 100 pounds. Following that, he was captured by one of the coaches who assisted him in making his MMA debut.

“LIFE CAN FEEL LIKE IT’S BEATING US UP SOMETIMES, BUT YOU HAVE TO RISE UP AND REALIZE WHO WE ARE.”-ROUNTREE, KHALIL

MMA is an ongoing process.

Muay Thai drills were the most successful and useful in Rountree’s transformation from an unathletic to an athletic body.

Despite the fact that his fitness training was rigorous, he had his brother’s support and drive.

Following his entry into MMA, he changed his numbers to avoid distractions and dedicated his entire being to the purest form of combat sports.

He cut himself apart from everyone he knew from his past for the sake of his new lifestyle, a completely new body, and everything else.

Khalil Rountree was never a confrontational or aggressive person, thus he was bullied because of his appearance.

He is currently in a position to respond to all of the bullies; hence, he is rather rigorous in this regard.

The American professional boxer has gone a long way, but he has yet to arrive at his target and leave his mark.

He believes he needs to do a lot of internal work to improve himself.
