Disruption of a College Career
When Kenny applied for university athletics after finishing high school, the NCAA confronted him with an academic transgression.
On the eve of his enrollment in New Mexico, the NCAA ruled Thomas ineligible in August 1995.
They claimed that the only reason was that Kenny was only one high school core credit short of the needed 13 credits.
The NCAA raised the issue after claiming that his physical science lesson was not part of a core curriculum.
However, Kenny stated that he accepted the class on the advice of the counselor and that if the NCAA had told him beforehand, he would have altered his mind.
As a result, Thomas filed a lawsuit, claiming that the NCAA’s decision was inflicting irreparable injury to Kenny’s education.
After three hard days, they accepted Kenny as eligible for the program.

Kenny Thomas joined the 1999 NBA Draft immediately after graduating from college.
Back then, the Houston Rockets selected him with the 22nd overall choice in the first round.
