Josh Prenot’s Childhood and Family

Joshua Prenot was born in Sedalia, Missouri, on July 28, 1993, to parents William and Tammy Prenot.

While little information is available about Tammy’s occupation, William is a former United States Air Force Lt. Col. who served for 20 years.

Josh had to relocate from place to place with his parents as a military child.

His parents, on the other hand, recall how easily he adjusted to everywhere they traveled.

His mother also said in an interview how they met other coaches along the way who helped him a lot.

Being an army brat influenced essential personality attributes such as discipline, punctuality, and work ethics.

His father also instilled in him a love of fitness, which aided him along the road.

He was competitive in everything he did since his childhood; everyone loves to win, but he despises losing.

As a result, his quest for excellence was ignited.

He began training at an early age, as do the majority of swimmers of his caliber.

In reality, he began competitive swimming at the age of six.

Josh Prenot’s Professional Life

He has competed in national and international tournaments as a member of the USA Swimming national junior squad since his early years.

He finished fifth in the 400m IM and sixth in the 200m butterfly at the 2010 Junior Pan Pacific Championships.

Collegiate

Though he began swimming at a young age, his talent shone through during his freshman year of college.

He was a member of the California Golden Bears from 2012 to 2016.

Josh was voted Pac 12 Newcomer of the Year after winning the 400m IM his freshman year.

At the NCAA championships that season, Prenot finished fourth in the 400m IM and sixth in the 200 breaststrokes and 200IM, earning all-America honors.

Similarly, he defended his Pac 12 400m IM title in 2014 and finished third in an NCAA competition.

At the same time, he set new school records in the events.

He earned another gold in the 400-yard IM in 2015, as well as two silvers in the 200-yard breast and 200-yard IM.

But it was in 2016 that we saw him at his best.

He had his best fish ever at the NCAA when he won gold in the 400IM with a time of 3.35.82.

He also finished second in the 200Im and 200 breaststrokes.

Professional Career

He began his professional career in 2016 as a member of the Adidas team.

Adidas revealed this collaboration on social media on December 5th, 2016.

Following that, Prenot expressed his excitement to see how revolutionary Adidas products will assist him in reaching his peak.

At the age of 19, he took his first Olympic trial in 2012, hoping to make it to London.

Josh placed tenth overall in the 200m breast, thirteenth in the 400Im, and fourteenth in the 200IM.

Although he had to wait four years for his desire to come true, it allowed him more time to improve his skills.

With a timing of 2:07:17 in the 2016 US Olympic trials, he broke the US record in the 200m breaststroke.

This is also the fourth quickest race time in event history.

During his Olympic debut, the US team had great hopes for Prenot.

And he did not let us down!

Josh finished second in a very competitive 200m breaststroke race with a timing of 2:07:53.

This was the United States’ first Olympic gold in the 200m breaststroke since 2004.

Aside from that, he competed in the 200 IM and 400 IM but did not finish on the podium.

He received a tattoo of the Olympic rings on his left arm in December 2016.

Josh Prenot: Retirement Prospects

The year 2020 and the coronavirus epidemic have been challenging for all of us.

The postponement of the 2020 Olympics has taken a significant toll on athletes all across the world.

In addition, Josh was disappointed when he did not qualify for the Tokyo Olympics trials.

The 2016 silver medallist finished 17th with a time of 2.13.42 seconds, as only the top 16 went to the semifinals.

Following the race, he conveyed his emotions in a series of tweets.

Prenot apologized to fans for his poor performance and announced that he would be taking at least a year break from swimming.

“I have pursued peak performance for the past five years, and how rarely I have found it has really destroyed my brain,” he wrote in one of those tweets.

He also stated that he is frequently blamed for not doing what he is capable of.

Will he return?

Josh has not yet removed his name from anti-doping lists, but his chances of returning to professional swimming appear bleak.

Being an exceptional athlete may undoubtedly have a negative impact on one’s mental and emotional health, particularly in swimming, where milliseconds can make or break a career.

Though fans hope to see more of him in the water, the final decision is in the athlete’s hands.

The wedding was followed by a honeymoon car trip around New Zealand’s south island.
