Josh Cornell Selby

Josh Cornell Selby is an NBA basketball player. Josh Cornell Selby was previously a member of the Kansas Jayhawks, his collegiate squad. He later played for the Memphis Grizzlies, Canton Charge, Maine Red Claws, and Qingdao Eagles, among other clubs.

Josh brings athleticism, originality, and body control to the games, to put it plainly.

He joined the Franklin Bulls in 2011 and has been with them since.

Early Years, Family, and Education

Josh Cornell Selby was born on March 27, 1991.

Maeshon Witherspoon was his single mother when he was born in Baltimore, Maryland.

Selby frequently refers to his childhood as “difficult times” because so little is known about them.

Growing up in a neighborhood in West Baltimore where there were constant gunshots was difficult.

Witherspoon was left at his grandmother’s house when he was five years old when he went to work for McDonald’s.

Fearing the gunfire noises during such tenures, he would phone his mother, and Witherspoon would drop everything and rush over to him.

In addition, being a middle school student became more challenging. When Witherspoon left her former job to start a new one, her new position wasn’t ready when she arrived, and she fell behind on her rent payments.

As a result, she had no choice but to relocate with her pals. Josh shared a bed with two other lads, while she shared a bed with her friend.

Meanwhile, Josh was displaying signs of “street lads,” as Witherspoon explained.

He would frequently discuss skipping school and breaking curfews in simple terms.

Environment shifts & Education

Following that, Witherspoon made the decision to move in with her mother, who was really welcoming.

She switched Josh’s middle school and even his area at that time, and Josh progressively improved.

It did not, however, prevent terrible incidents.

When Josh saw one of his friends’ mouth whipped with a handgun, he experienced some of the darkest moments of his life.

He also saw his cousin Shelton Turner be shot in the car, which died of brain enlargement over time.

Josh attended DeMatha Catholic High School in Hyattsville, Maryland, and The John Carroll School in Bel Air, Maryland, for his secondary education.

As a result, for his senior year, he went to Baltimore’s Lake Clifton High School.

In the end, he chose the University of Kansas as his final college choice.

Josh Cornell Selby’s net worth is at $2 million, with total career earnings of $1,484,408.

In addition, his pay with the Memphis Grizzlies in 2011-12 was $442,683.

Early Career

Witherspoon, Josh’s mother, was a basketball player at Baltimore’s Overlea High School.

She received a basketball scholarship offer from Coppin State after graduating from high school.

As a result, at a young age, she would pass on her inherited skill to her son.

She discovered Josh’s left hand was weak when he was seven years old.

She used to take him to the gym and force him to dribble and bounce the ball with only his left hand.

Josh, understandably, would ask him to stop. She would eventually persuade him to finish it.

In his senior year of high school, Josh averaged 32 points, seven assists, five rebounds, and two steals per game.

Collage Career

Josh had made the decision to attend the University of Tennessee after graduating from high school. Later that year, though, he changed his mind.

Josh chose Kansas over Kentucky, UConn, and Arizona for his college commitment later in 2010.

All of this was revealed during the 2010 Jordan Brand Classic, which was broadcast live on ESPN2 from Madison Square Garden.

Josh was the top-rated prospect on the recruiting website Rivals.com when he first arrived on campus.

During his time with Kansas, he won the dunk contest before each game.

His college career was marred by controversy, and he was suspended for nine games as a result.

In addition, he was plagued by ailments throughout the season, forcing him to miss a large number of games.

Josh played 20.4 minutes per game after his comeback, averaging 7.9 points and 2.2 assists.

He has also only played in 26 of the team’s 38 games.

Professional Career

Selby revealed his intent to enter the 2011 NBA Draft on Twitter in April of that year.

On June 23, 2011, he was drafted 49th overall by the Memphis Grizzlies in the second round.

In addition, on December 10, 2011, they inked a contract.

Josh began his career with the Reno Bighorns, for whom he won the NBA Summer League in 2012.

Along with Damian Lillard, he was named MVP.

Josh was dealt with the Cleveland Cavaliers along with Marreese Speights and Wayne Ellington later that year by the Memphis Grizzlies.

In those days, he was a member of the Canton Charge of the Development League.

Josh was waived by the Cavaliers in March of that year and signed by the Maine Red Claws.

He did not stay with the squad for long, though, as he joined the Qingdao Eagles in China.

Despite this, he was waived by the Eagles again until November.

Josh then signed in and out of the team for a long time in a short gap.

He signed with Cedevita Zagreb, a Croatian team, on January 7, 2014, but was released a month later.

In the same way, he signed with Bnei Herzliya of the Israeli Basketball Premier League.

He then went on to play for Scor Petkim in the Turkish Basketball Second League in 2015.

Josh spent the following season with Best Belikesir in the Turkish Basketball Super League.

He also played for Maccabi Kiryat Gat in Israel, the Korean Basketball League’s Incheon Elephants, and the Liga Nacional de Básquet’s Ferro Carril Oeste.

Josh has played in the Dominican Republic for San Lázaro and the Macedonian First League for Kumanovo since 2019.

He signed with the Franklin Bulls on January 15, 2021, for the 2021 New Zealand NBL season.

Sexuality

Josh and a boy called Justin Cruz had a series of talks in February 2011 that raised questions about his sexuality, according to MediaDailyLA.com.

Indeed, it sparked yet more instability in Josh’s life, as well as yet another issue to discuss. The chat between the two is shown below.

“Justin: Okay, well, are you still planning on getting a hotel room? And after I’m done with you, you’re going to be turned out LOL, and if you have time, follow me on Twitter @IamJustinCruz.

Josh: I’m not sure about all of that, but I’m looking forward to seeing your lovely face. And, yes, I’m getting the television, so call me right now!

Josh: What’s up, bruh….some here’s pics of myself. Never, ever, ever, ever, ever, ever, ever, ever, ever, ever I’m in sports and don’t want anyone to know, and I’m just inquisitive, not homosexual, bruh.”

Josh made a statement about the Grizzlies in 2013, stating that he was unhappy with the team. Selby had injured his hand and was dealing with a stress response on his right foot when he arrived at the team after Kansas.

As a result of his stress, he underperformed, and he was finally traded to the Cleveland Cavaliers.

Josh also mentioned that he never had a significant amount of playing time with the team.

Possession of Marijuana Charge

Josh Selby was charged with marijuana possession in Prince George’s County district court in January 2012. However, there are few details provided.

Josh also made a direct statement regarding the matter, saying, “no remark on it.” “It is what it is,” says the narrator. He was also not given any form of suspension or anything like that.

Josh was charged the next day with failing to heed properly posted traffic control device directions once more.
