John Yoo is a lawyer and retired government official. John Yoo currently holds the position of Emanuel S. Heller Professor of Law at the University of California, Berkeley School of Law. Yoo also contributes a monthly column called “Closing Arguments” to The Philadelphia Inquirer. Yoo authored and continues to author academic books such as Crisis and Command.
In 2019, he said on Fox News, “Some might call that espionage,” when discussing Lt. Col. Alexander Vindman, the National Security Council’s top Ukraine expert.
The next day, Alexander was scheduled to testify before Congress about Trump’s request to Ukrainian President Petro Poroshenko to launch an investigation into his political rival Joe Biden.
Yoo later apologized, saying, “I truly regret the choice of words,” and that he was referring to Ukrainian officials rather than Alexander.
