College and High School Career
At Fordham Prep, where he averaged 16 points, 8 rebounds, 8 assists, and 3 steal a game, Holland was a McDonald’s All-American nominee, a CHSAA All-Division selection, and a Journal News All-County pick.

On April 11, 2016, John committed to the Boston Celtics.
He made his Celtics debut on April 19 when he came off the bench to play one minute in an 89-72 playoff defeat to the Atlanta Hawks. He was released by the Celtics on August 31, 2016.
On September 26, 2016, Holland signed a contract with the Cleveland Cavaliers, but he was cut loose on October 22 following just three preseason contests.
On September 8, 2017, Holland was given a two-way deal by the Cleveland Cavaliers.
According to the terms of the contract, he will split his time between the Cavaliers and their G-League team, the Canton Charge. The first Cavaliers player to sign one of these deals is Holland.
He would also play in his first NBA regular-season games during this contract, having previously only appeared in one playoff game for Boston.

With the Cavaliers, he captured the Eastern Conference title and made it to the NBA Finals.
