During their six-month stay in Hong Kong, he briefly attended the Hong Kong International School in Tai Tam.

However, they quickly relocated to mainland China, where he enrolled at the Beijing International School (ISB).

When he was at the ISB, he began playing basketball. Both of his older brothers, John and Jeremy, excelled at the sport and were among Beijing High School’s greatest players.

When they returned to the United States, however, they were unable to advance to the NCAA higher division competition.

He decided to attend an American school in order to prepare himself for competing against American athletes like his siblings.

Alexander resided in Beijing with his father and stepmother until 2002. Because he spent the majority of his youth in China, he became fluent in Mandarin.

His mother, Allyson, was in Mount Airy, Maryland, so he moved in with her and began attending Linganore High School, which was close to their home.

College Life

Alexander began his academic studies at West Virginia University in 2005. In his first season, he only played ten games and averaged 1.3 points per game.

He was given increased playing time by the Mountaineers’ management, and he appeared in 36 games, starting all of them.

Unfortunately, Joe choked in the final matches, despite having a terrific time in the first encounters.

He did, however, lead his squad to win in the 2007 NIT. He averaged 10.3 points and 4.3 rebounds per game during the regular season.

He was named First-Team All-Big East after averaging 16.2 points and 6.1 rebounds per game during his junior season. He also averaged 18.0 points per game in the NCAA playoffs.

Career Opportunities

The Mountaineers’ power forward forewent his final year at West Virginia University in 2008 to join the NBA draft.

Joe was selected by the Milwaukee Bucks in the first round of the draft as one of the greatest prospects in his region.

He made an impression with the Bucks during the 2008 NBA Summer League, averaging 9.2 points and 3.6 rebounds per game.

However, he began his NBA regular season on the bench, and his performance in the few games he did play did not go well.

Despite staying with them for the following season, he did not appear in any regular NBA games.

He also has a hamstring ailment to contend with. Following his recuperation, he was assigned to the NBA D-Fort League’s Wayne Mad Ants.

He had played well in the D-League and was hoping for a contract extension with the Bucks, but the team traded him to the Chicago Bulls for the following season, much to his dismay.

Joe was sent to the NBA D-League after only eight games with the Bulls. However, his stint in the lower league was hindered by injuries, and he was unable to perform as well as he had in the past.

Leagues from abroad

Alexander eventually chose an Israeli Basketball Premier League career over an American minor league future, signing with Maccabi Tel Aviv in 2014.

He also played three seasons in the Israeli league before moving abroad to try his luck with clubs from other leagues. With Maccabi, he won the Israeli State Cup twice.

In the interim, he played for numerous international clubs in Turkey, South Korea, France, and other nations.

Injuries
