In an interview with Collider magazine in March 2021, Mei Le discussed the ethnic connections between her real life and her on-screen role.
She also stated that her character in the series faces racist remarks simply because she is mixed race.
It was wonderful because there are some situations in the first few episodes where you see Alina having people make racial comments to her and everything.
But, in the end, all of her experiences fortify her and inspire her to achieve great things in life.
“It was really intriguing that they’d inserted that, and I think it adds a lot more to sort of understanding who she is as a person and why she doesn’t feel worthy,” Mei Le said.
Because her trip begins with “I’m no one, you know I’m just an outsider” and ends with “no, this is where I belong.”
