His mother Margot née Kallmann was a bank clerk whilst his father Richard Springer operated a shoe shop.
Both his parents were Jewish refugees who had escaped from Landsberg a der Warthe, Prussia (now Gorzów Wielkopolski, Poland).
Talking about his education Jerry obtained his BA from Tulane University and later received his Juris Doctor degree from Northwestern University.
