Jeremy Lin was allegedly charged with trying to be black by Kenyon Martin. Lin, a Harvard alumnus, corrected Martin.

In this world, racism has no place, especially in the NBA.

Despite this, some people continue to say stupid things.

A few years ago, Kenyon Martin gained notoriety for his remarks regarding Jeremy Lin’s rasta dreads.

Harvard-educated Lin gave a brutal response and lectured Martin in the process.

Lin is your last name

It has been popular in recent years to record and post your thoughts online.

Martin followed through on this and targeted Lin’s choice of haircut.

Martin claimed that Lin was attempting to be black for some strange reason.

“Does this blasted boy need to be reminded that his last name is Lin? Come on man, really. With these individuals, let’s put an end to this man. With that bull**** on his head, there’s no way he could have made it onto one of our teams” Martin stated.

“Get going, man. He truly needs to hear someone say, “All right man, we get it; you want to be black.” But yes, the last name is Lin,” Martin continued.

Martin’s ideas are undoubtedly embarrassing.

It’s incredible that he was able to spew out his entire tirade without acknowledging how ridiculous he sounded.

As anticipated, Martin received backlash from NBA fans for his stupid remarks.

Lin saw the video and used the reverse UNO card to defeat Martin.

Killing him with compassion

Both Martin’s video and Lin’s response have since been taken down.

But Reddit has preserved Lin’s magnificent response.

Lin reprimanded the former All-Star instead of jumping on the bandwagon and criticizing Martin.

“Hey, dude. It’s okay, you don’t have to like my hair, and you have every right to your viewpoint. Actually, I’m genuinely appreciative of your sharing it. The fact that you have Chinese tattoos and I have dreadlocks is a gesture of respect, which I admire. And I believe that minorities have a greater influence on mainstream society the more we respect one another’s cultures.”

In other words, Lin had just told Martin to look at himself in the mirror, especially his arms, which were covered in Chinese tattoos.

After the incident, the two quickly patched things up.

Martin clarified his remarks, saying they weren’t meant to be racial.

Just like his colleagues do in the locker room, he was making jokes.

Lin, on the other hand, spoke of Martin’s extreme remorse.

Additionally, he begged his fellow Asians not to act or speak in a racist manner toward Martin.

He also posted a summary of the entire experience and what he hoped to learn on Instagram as a follow-up.

“I think something major will start to happen if African Americans are able to be enthusiastic about issues that aren’t just tied to African Americans. The ultimate objective is to change mainstream society, and I believe we can do it. All of this pitting me against him, or whatever causes division, is something I don’t support.” wrote Lin.

There you have it, then.

Lin demonstrates that it’s not necessary to put out fires with fire.

He also serves as a warning against mistreating a Harvard alumnus with a good heart.
