Jean Smart lost her 71-year-old actor husband Richard Gilliland on March 18, 2021.
According to a press release, Gilliland had a “brief illness” before his death in Los Angeles.
Smart’s husband, who was born in 1950 in Fort Worth, Texas, started his career at the Goodman School of Drama in Chicago.
On Designing Women in 1986, he had a recurring role as baseball talent scout J.D. Shackelford.
That’s when Smart and Gilliland first met and later married.
