Jaydon Mickens

Jaydon Mickens is a football player. Jaydon Mickens attended Washington State University and signed with the Oakland Raiders as an undrafted free agent in 2016. Jaydon was a member of the Washington Huskies football team.

Mickens was largely an afterthought on offense for much of the season, which was understandable considering the Buccaneers’ wealth of quality at receiver. He was signed to a one-year deal for the 2020 season.

Early years, Family, and Education

Jaydon Mickens was born on April 21, 1994, in Los Angeles, California.

Jaydon was born and raised in Los Angeles before moving to Washington to complete his education at the University of Washington.

He was a member of the Washington Huskies football team throughout his college years. During his senior year at college, his jersey number became quite renowned.

Mickens, too, played collegiate football at Washington, where he spent the majority of his time after switching his jersey number from 4 to 1.

Before he qualified for the 2016 NFL Draft, this happened between his junior and senior years.

He produced solid but inconsistent numbers as a junior and senior, leading the team in catches and receiving yards but never entering the Top 10 in the conference.

He was also the Huskies’ kick returner his freshman year, but he only returned four points and scored no touchdowns in either position.

Income and Net Worth

Unfortunately, Jaydon Mickens’s actual net worth is unknown at this time. Jaydon makes the majority of his money as a competent player.

Jaydon’s pay for 2022 was $750,000, and his estimated salary for 2021 is around $920,000, according to reports.

The Oakland Raiders chose Jaydon for their practice squad in 2016. He then played for the team in 2017 until departing on September 2nd of that year.

Raiders of Oakland

Mickens signed with the Oakland Raiders as an undrafted free agent on May 12, 2016.

The Raiders terminated him on September 3, 2016, and he was signed to the practice squad the next day.

In addition, after spending the entire 2016 season on the Raiders’ practice squad, Jaydon signed a reserve/future deal with the team on January 9, 2017. The team waived him on September 2, 2017.

Jaguars of Jacksonville

On September 19, 2017, Mickens was signed to the Jacksonville Jaguars practice squad. He was promoted to the active roster on October 21, 2017.

He also won the AFC Special Teams Player of the Week award in Week 9 after scoring a 63-yard punt return touchdown in the fourth quarter of a 23-7 win over the Cincinnati Bengals.

In Week 14, Jaydon had a 72-yard punt return but was stopped on the one-yard line, allowing the Jaguars to take a 14-point lead over the Seattle Seahawks.

They were named AFC Special Teams Player of the Week for their efforts.

He had had one reception as a receiver before Week 15, but he had four for 61 yards and two second-quarter touchdowns in a playoff-clinching 45-7 win over Houston.

Mickens was placed on injured reserve on October 15, 2018, after suffering a fractured ankle in Week 6.

Panthers of Carolina

Mickens was signed by the Carolina Panthers on July 24, 2019. He was waived on August 30, 2019, as part of the final roster cuts.

Buccaneers of Tampa Bay

On December 19, 2019, Mickens was added to the Tampa Bay Buccaneers practice squad. He was promoted to the active roster on December 24, 2019.

He was also waived on July 31, 2020, but re-signed on August 9. Jaydon was placed on the reserve/COVID-19 list by the team on November 14, 2020, and activated on November 30.

He was then waived on December 7, 2020, and re-signed to the practice squad two days later.

On December 30, 2020, Mickens was added to the active roster. Besides, Jaydon is the new Super Bowl champion.

Promotion to the position of Active Roaster

The Tampa Bay Buccaneers upgraded wide receiver Jaydon to the active roster on Wednesday and placed running back Kenjon Barner on injured reserve in a similar move.

Mickens was more of a unique team contributor than an offensive threat for the Bucs this season.

Similarly, he caught just seven catches for 58 yards on 10 targets despite being buried in the depth chart behind Mike Evans, Chris Godwin, Antonio Brown, Scotty Miller, and Justin Watson.

Furthermore, in nine games this season, the 27-year-old returned 15 points for 99 yards and 12 kickoffs for 289 total yards.

Mickens will most likely work entirely on special teams for the remainder of the season, so fantasy owners should disregard him.

Tampa Bay Buccaneers

Mickens, a kick/punt returner for the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, was placed on waivers on Monday, but he returned to the practice squad the next day after not being claimed.

Mickens had 388 yards on 27 returns this season, but his spot on special teams appears to have been taken by Kenjon Barner.

With a plethora of wide receiver options, Mickens has only seven catches for 58 yards this season, making him more important to the Buccaneers’ defense/special teams unit than as an individual asset.

As a result, Tampa Bay has established itself as a top D/ST, regardless of who returns kicks, thanks to its stingy defense, particularly against the run.

Mickens will have to earn his way back onto the active roster before he can be considered fantasy relevant.

Professional Background

Jaydon was named to the Oakland Raiders practice squad in his most recent season. In the same way, he was a member of the team in 2017.

He was signed by the Jacksonville Jaguars and Carolina Panthers after the Riders waived him. He also signed a contract with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers on December 19, 2019.

Mickens, who is listed at 5-foot-11 and 170 pounds, returned just four points for 21 yards (5.3 average) during his Washington collegiate career, including none during his senior season in 2015.

Mickens knows more about the misadventures of a practice squad player than anyone else.

After being cut for the third time in a year by Oakland on September 4, the California native was added to the Jaguars’ practice squad 15 days later.

Mickens remained on the practice squad until October 21, when he was promoted to the active roster as the team looked for a special teams boost and receiving depth ahead of a Week 7 matchup against Indianapolis.

Mickens, meanwhile, stated his pay while on the practice squad was roughly $6,500 per week to save money compared to the $465,000 annual rookie minimum he now makes.

Mickens and receiver Larry Pinkard would hang out late with teammates before finding a location to park their automobiles and sleep, according to Mickens.

Achievements

Following his 72-yard return this week, he was able to set up a third-quarter touchdown in a win over Seattle on Sunday.

Mickens also made history by being the first returner to earn two AFC Special Teams Player of the Week accolades in team history.

Mickens won the title for the first time last month after returning a punt 63 yards for a touchdown against Cincinnati, becoming the Jaguars’ fifth player to do so.

Similarly, he became the first player since Rashad Greene in 2015 to return a punt for a touchdown.
