Jason Kidd, sometimes known as J-Kidd, is a professional basketball coach and former player. Jason Kidd currently serves as the head coach of the Dallas Mavericks of the National Basketball Association (NBA). The athlete had a stellar NBA career.

NBA Professional Career

Jason was chosen second overall by the Dallas Mavericks in the first round of the 1994 NBA draft.

Jason then spent time with the Phoenix Suns from 1996 to 2001, and the New Jersey Nets from 2001 to 2008.

Kidd’s first participation in USA basketball occurred following his freshman year of college.

He was the lone freshman selected for Team USA’s 10-member team.

Coaching Career

Jason Kidd was hired as head coach of the Brooklyn Nets on June 12, 2013, succeeding interim coach P. J. Carlesimo.

Likewise, Jason is the third person since the ABA–NBA merger to make his NBA coaching debut the season after retiring as a player.

Jason won his first game as head coach on November 5th, defeating the Utah Jazz 104–88.

The NBA fined Kidd $50,000 on November 28 for instructing his player Tyshawn Taylor to bump into him and intentionally spill a cup of soda on the court.

The action was done to stop the game so his team could plan a last-second offensive play against the Lakers.

After one season, the player was traded to the Milwaukee Bucks, where he coached for four seasons before being fired midseason in 2018.

Following that, Jason was hired as an assistant coach by the Los Angeles Lakers on July 31, 2019.

The California native won his second NBA championship in 2020 when the Lakers defeated the Miami Heat in six games.

Jason Kidd was arrested by Southampton Town police on July 15, 2012, and charged with the misdemeanor of driving while intoxicated.

First Marriage

In 1997, Jason married Joumana.

The player had three kids with Joumana: Trey Jason and the twins Jazelle and Miah.

Jason Kidd began dating Porschla Coleman in 2008 after his divorce from Joumana, who had also recently ended her previous relationship.
