Who is Jan Markell?
Jan Markell is the founder and director of Olive Tree Ministries Inc., and an American speaker, author, and radio host. Jan Markell is the weekly host of the radio show and podcast Understanding the Times.
Early Life and Childhood
Jan Markell was born in Minneapolis, Minnesota, in the United States, on February 20, 1944.
As a result, Jan celebrates her birthday on February 20 every year. Jan has the age of 78.
Jan grew up with an Evangelical mother and an Orthodox Jewish father. Jan was invited to a Baptist Church by a Christian neighbor when she was 11 years old to hear the famous Messianic evangelist Hyman Appleman (1902–1983).
Jan has since been convicted, as has her mother, after she shared the message with her. As a result, Jan began to study God’s Prophetic Word as a teenager.
Her mother died of cancer in 1987, and her father became a believer in Yeshua in his final years.
She also describes herself as a Bible-believing Christian who grew up in a Jewish family.

Jan Markell attended Bethel University in St. Paul, Minnesota, where she earned an associate degree.
Professional Career
Markell is the President and Founder of Olive Tree Ministries, which she founded in 1982.
Furthermore, Olive Ministries’ headquarters are in Maple Grove, Minnesota, a Minneapolis suburb.
She began her Ministries after visiting Israel in the mid-1970s, reading Hal Lindsey’s Late Great Planet Earth, and becoming involved with Messianic Judaism.
Jan ministered in hundreds of women’s groups, churches, home fellowships, and even some men’s groups after the launch of Olive Tree.
Furthermore, her audiences were ecstatic as she delivered messages on Israel in prophecy, Bible prophecy, Jewish evangelism, Christ in the Passover, and current events.
However, Jan was forced to cut back on her ministry in 1985 due to Chronic Fatigue Syndrome.
In 1985, three years after establishing the Olive Tree Ministries, she was diagnosed with Chronic Fatigue Syndrome. As a result, she battled the illness for over two decades until she was miraculously healed and her health was restored in 2001.
She is the host of the nationally syndicated radio show and podcast Understanding the Times. Jan began a new radio program on the local station with her newfound energy after her healing in 1981.
Her radio show is currently syndicated on the Salem Radio Network and is heard weekly on over 850 radio stations.
Aside from hosting Understanding the Times, she also hosts an annual prophecy conference, which draws an audience of 3000 to 4000 people per day.
