James Arness’s bio

The late actor, born James King Aurness, deleted the latter “u” in his last name after beginning his acting career on May 26, 1972, in Minneapolis.

His father, Rolf Virkler Aurness, was an entrepreneur, and his mother, Ruth Duesler, was a journalist.

James is the first of his parents’ two children and has a younger brother named Peter Graves.

Everything in what appears to be a single-family broke down in the 1940s after James’ parents divorced.

Before attending Washburn High School, he was educated at John Burroughs Grade School.

In 1942, he was transferred to West High.

Following graduating, the actor began working as a loader and mailbox attendant in a jewelry store.

Before becoming an actor, James had aspired to be a naval pilot, but he had established limits in his heart to prevent his goals from being realized.

Nonetheless, from 1943 to 1945, following a severely wounded in the Battle of Anzio, he joined the United States Army and served until his service was terminated.

After leaving the service, Arness obtained a position as a radio broadcaster, hoping to get into the acting profession while simultaneously changing his surname.

In addition to his debut film, The Farmer’s Daughter, in 1947, he also appeared in the crime film Roses Are Red.

With his outstanding theater performances, he was able to obtain more roles and appeared in over 38 films over the course of 46 years.

He appeared in every episode of the Gunsmoke TV series till it ended in 1975, waving to his fans.

Previously, he worked between schedules and performed in a variety of series, including The Lone Ranger (1950), The Red Skelton Chevy Special (1959), and the Lux Film Theater (1954), among others.

James Arness’ autobiography, James: an autobiography, was released by Burt Reynolds in September 2001.

James did not go unnoticed, receiving numerous honors and being hailed for his portrayal in the drama Gunsmoke.

Rolf and Jenny divorced in 1960 after having two children.

They also had a son adopted from a previous marriage by Virginia Chapman.

After divorcing Chapman, he married actress Janet Surtees in 1978.

They don’t have any children of their own, but they were together till James died.

Jenny Lee Arness, the actor’s daughter, died in 1975, just before her twenty-fourth birthday.

Despite the difficulties of his existence during the war, he was known for his smiles.

His height of 6 foot 7 inches was one of the characteristics he employed in scaling throughout the Army training phase.

According to sources, he weighed more than 106 kg and had a great physique frame while he was alive.

While he died in 2011, his creations live on in the hearts of countless people.

Unfortunately, it was naturally transported to Forest Lawn Memorial Park on June 3, 2011, and laid to rest at Glendale.
