Is Oscar Isaac Jewish, like Moon Knight from Marvel?

Oscar Isaac is of half-Guatemalan and half-Cuban descent.

His mother, Mara Eugenia Estrada Nicolle, is half Guatemalan, and his father, Oscar Gonzalo Hernández-Cano, is half Cuban.

Since the Guatemalan-Cuban-American actor has portrayed characters of various racial backgrounds throughout his career, most notably José Ramos-Horta in the 2009 film Balibo and King John in Robin Hood, there has been some speculation about his ethnicity.

“Both my father and grandfather were named Oscar,” he revealed to The Golden Globes.

Similarly, Oscar stated, “My grandfather was French in Guatemala, and my father is Cuban, but he grew up in the United States as well.”

The Pu-239 star went on to say that he arrived in the country when he was five months old and spent the majority of his childhood in Miami.

The Moon Knight actor admitted that he is a big mix of different things and revealed that he has Jewish ancestors on his father’s side.

His father is Jewish, despite the fact that he is not. As a result, Isaac is Jewish on his father’s side.

The Dune actor also stated that he thought changing his last name from Hernandez to something else was preventing him from getting roles, as he lost one because a director mistook him for Jewish.

On March 5, Isaac said on Saturday Night Live that casting directors had described him as “ethnically ambiguous” and that “according to them, I can play anything from a pharaoh to Timothée Chalamet’s dad.”

In ‘Moon Knight,’ Oscar Isaac speaks with an unusual British accent

At the press conference, Juilliard-trained actor Oscar Isaac stated that the decision to make Steven Grant British was influenced by “too many characters in New York.”

Isaac admitted in an interview with Radio Times that “it wasn’t necessarily written that way at all.”

When the actor presented the idea to Marvel CEO Kevin Feige, he received an enthusiastic yes.

He did say that the British accent wasn’t entirely convincing.

“That voice is about where Steven is from, where he is now, and some of his ancestors,” he teased Empire.

He stayed in the voice for two months while filming the show, and he was the one who came up with the idea of using multiple accents to represent Moon Knight’s various personas.
