Is Tony Khan, the CEO of AEW, related to WWE President Nick Khan?
For the first time since WCW faced off against WWE in the late 1990s, the world’s largest professional wrestling organization has a legitimate rival in AEW. Both of these promotions are headed by males with the surname Khan in 2022.
Tony Khan is the creator, co-owner, CEO, General Manager, and Creative Director of All Elite Wrestling.
Tony Khan, is he related to Nick Khan?
In an odd coincidence, two of the most influential people in professional wrestling in 2022 happen to share the same surname.
Tony Khan, 39, is the son of a sports franchise owner and a lifelong pro wrestling fan.
He founded AEW and is the main creative force behind the fledgling brand.
Nick Khan is a former talent agent and Hollywood power broker who joined WWE in 2020.
Nick, unlike Tony, is not involved in the creative part of wrestling.
He is now the driving force behind WWE’s wildly successful business operations.
While they come from different backgrounds and play different positions in their respective businesses, there is no denying that these two Khans are two of the most powerful personalities in pro wrestling right now.
Who is Tony Khan of AEW?
Tony Khan is the son of Shad Khan, a billionaire in the automotive parts industry who is Pakistani-American.
The older Khan also owns the Jacksonville Jaguars of the NFL and Fulham FC of the English Premier League.
Tony is affiliated with both the Jaguars and Fulham, but professional wrestling is his genuine love.
In 2019, he co-founded All Elite Wrestling with professional wrestlers Kenny Omega, Cody Rhodes, and The Young Bucks.
Tony Khan and AEW soon agreed to do weekly shows on Turner Broadcasting’s networks. A: Dynamite presently airs on TBS on Wednesdays, while AEW: Rampage airs on TNT on Friday evenings.
AEW has grown in popularity by emphasizing in-ring wrestling rather than the sports entertainment-focused WWE.
It has also signed a number of well-known former WWE talents, including CM Punk, Chris Jericho, Bryan Danielson, and Jon Moxley.
In 2022, AEW began to achieve success with local stars including Maxwell Jacob Friedman (MJF), Jade Cargill, and Jungle Boy.

Who exactly is WWE’s Nick Khan?
WWE’s Stamford, Connecticut headquarters is a few hundred miles north of AEW’s headquarters in Jacksonville, Florida.
That is where Nick Khan works behind the scenes for World Wrestling Entertainment, a publicly traded company worth billions of dollars.
According to Variety, Nick Khan is a former attorney who represented sportsmen at the Hollywood talent agencies ICM and CAA.
He “went from representing sports personalities to negotiating deals for sports leagues and organizations as they sought to secure media agreements with TV networks and digital platforms” over his career.
Nick Khan represented the WWE as a member of CAA before Vince McMahon appointed him as president and chief revenue officer in 2020 as a result of this shift in his job responsibilities.
Nick Khan, who runs the financial side of WWE, was instrumental in negotiating a billion-dollar contract with NBCUniversal to make Peacock the exclusive streaming partner of WWE.
He’s also arranged deals with Netflix to produce a Vince McMahon documentary and a Spotify/The Ringer audio content partnership.
Tony Khan’s AEW may be challenging the WWE for fans’ and viewers’ hearts and minds in 2022, but it has a long way to go to catch up to the industry leader on the business side, which Nick Khan supervises.
