Iliza Shlesinger is a well-known American actress, comedian, and television host. Iliza Shlesinger released five comedy specials on Netflix in 2020. Shlesinger currently hosts the Wondery comedy podcast Ask Iliza Anything. In 2017, she also hosted her own late-night talk show on Freeform called Truth & Iliza. Shlesinger also won the 2008 season of NBC’s Last Comic Standing.

Shlesinger grew up in Dallas, Texas, in a Jewish family. She is, however, secretive, and she has kept information about her parents’ and/or siblings’ whereabouts out of the public eye.

Iliza Shlesinger attended Greenhill School in Addison for high school, where she studied Spanish and was a member of the school’s improvisation team.

Shlesinger attended the University of Kansas and later performed with ComedySportz Dallas and Semester at Sea.

She transferred to Emerson College in Boston, where she majored in film and honed her writing and editing skills. During her time on campus, she was a member of Jimmy’s Traveling All-Stars, one of the campus’s comedy sketch groups.

Professional Career

Shlesinger wrote and starred in the stand-up comedy film in 2013. Jay Chapman directed the film, which was her first stand-up comedy special for Netflix.

Furthermore, the comedy was shot at the Lakewood Theater in Dallas, where she discusses dating, friendship, make-up, and pretending to enjoy hiking. The film lasts 75 minutes.

The comedy film is Netflix’s fourth stand-up comedy special released in 2018. Furthermore, she discusses life at 35 in the comedy, which runs for 72 minutes.

She moved to Los Angeles after graduating from college to pursue stand-up comedy and was the most popular member of the Whiteboy Comedy group of standup comedians.

In 2007, she won Myspace’s So You Think You’re Funny contest and was named the G4 network’s Myspace Girl of the Week. She was also the first young woman to win NBC’s Last Comic Standing in the sixth season.

Shlesinger co-wrote Surviving the Holidays with Lewis Black and narrated the 2009 documentary Imagine It!2 The Power of Imagination.

In 2010, she also released Man Up and Act Like a Lady. She hosted The Weakly News on stream.tv from July 2007 to April 2012. She was also the host of Excused from 2011 to 2013.

On July 13, 2016, she also wrote and starred in the ABC digital series Forever 31.
