Hermann Maier’s Childhood and Family
Hermann Maier, called Herminator, was born on December 7, 1972, in Altenmarkt im Pongau, Salzburg, Austria, to Gertraud and Hermann Maier Sr.
When Maier was three years old, his father introduced him to the sport of skiing.
He was instantly captivated, and he began spending his leisure time at his father’s ski school.
Maier entered the Schladming ski academy when he was 15 years old.
However, because he was small and not very muscular, the academy deemed him unfit to become an alpinist.
