Heat stuns 76ers on the low-scoring night from Embiid
After recovering from the flu earlier this week, Joel Embiid only scored six points in 25 total minutes of action. While the Heat’s victory over the 76ers kept them in fifth place in the Eastern Conference.
The 76ers are still in the top spot in the East for the first time since 2001 despite the setback.
Additionally, Udonis Haslem, a seasoned player with 18 seasons of experience, makes his first appearance for the Heat in this game.
On Thursday night, the Miami Heat built an early lead over the Philadelphia 76ers and held it throughout the game.
Seth Curry, who plays well for the Heat, sets up Ben Simmons, who dunks to start the first quarter for the 76ers.
Then Bam Adebayo immediately responded for Miami with a jumper.
With 9:48 remaining in the quarter, the 76ers promptly added four points, making the score 6-2.
The score was then tied at 6-6 after back-to-back baskets from the Heat.
The Heat took their first lead of the evening after Jimmy Butler made a three-point shot.
The Heat kept on scoring heavily, scoring 5 points at the midpoint of the quarter to take the lead.
With 4:47 remaining, the margin had grown to eight points at 12-20.
Jimmy’s prolific scoring increased the margin to twelve points.
Udonis Haslem’s basket for the Heat in the dying seconds of the third quarter led to the 76ers responding, giving the Heat a 16-point lead.
The Heat’s dominance over the 76ers kept going strong
The Heat and 76ers were tied at 38-22 heading into the second quarter.
The 76ers immediately retaliated after the Heat opened the quarter with a basket.
The Heat responded with a three-pointer from Tyler Herro.
After roughly two minutes into the quarter, Haslem and Dwight Howard got into a fight over the latter’s earlier toss to the ground.
Haslem was then dismissed after barely three minutes of play.
With 9:15 left in the first, Herro made another three-pointer to push the Heat’s lead to 19 points.
As he entered the quarter again, Embiid made a basket.
Four minutes later, the Heat still led the 76ers by 19 points.
With 4:46 remaining in the third quarter, Herro made another three-pointer to increase the margin to 22 points, 31-53.
After Simmons made a layup for the 76ers, Seth immediately made a three-pointer.
On the 76ers’ ensuing possession, Tobias Harris misses a layup, giving them a 7-0 run.
But the Heat quickly retaliated with a 5-0 run, with baskets from Adebayo and Herro giving them a 20-point lead with approximately two minutes remaining.
21-60 was the score at the end of the third quarter.
In the third, the Heat outscored the 76ers once more

Butler quickly responds for the Heat with a three-pointer.
The 76ers’ Danny Green immediately responded with a three-pointer of his own.
With 6:15 remaining in the fourth, back-to-back baskets from Green and Curry trimmed the 76ers’ lead to 18 points.
Herro misses a three-point attempt once more, giving the 76ers a 20-point lead.
Every 76ers basket was answered by the Heat, who held onto their 20-plus point lead.
Even in the last seconds of the quarter, HERRO continued hot shooting from behind the arc.
With 29 seconds left in the quarter, he missed a three-pointer to make the score 91-67.
The 76ers’ late comeback attempt falls short against the Heat
To start the fourth quarter, Dewayne Dedmon tipped off Herro’s miss for the Heat.
Then Tyrese Maxey retorted with a dollar sign for the 76ers.
With that, the 76ers went on an 8-0 run to end the quarter with a score of 79-97.
Maxey’s foul after scoring gave the 76ers their first opportunity to rally.
For the first time in the second half, they were then within 17 points of the Heat.
However, the Heat fought back, regaining the lead by 20 points, 84-104, with 2:44 left in the first.
The 76ers immediately answered with a three-pointer from Isaiah Joe.
The 76ers went on a 12-2 run after that to narrow the deficit to 8 points.
The Heat controlled the game the entire time, therefore it was too late for the 76ers to win.
In the end, the Heat won 106-96 over the 76ers.
The Heat was captained by Jimmy Butler.
Jimmy Butler was the Heat’s top scorer as they defeated the No. 1 seed 76ers.
He finished with 21 points, 5 rebounds, and 4 assists.
Bam Adebayo, meanwhile, finished the game with a double-double of 18 points and 12 rebounds in addition to 8 assists.
For the Heat, Kendrick Nunn scored 13 points and grabbed 2 rebounds.
For the starting lineup, Trevor Ariza scored 10 points while grabbing 5 rebounds and 4 assists.
In contrast, Tyler Herro, who was a hot shooter from outside the arc, finished with 18 points, 6 rebounds, and 2 assists while sitting on the bench.
From the bench, Goran Dragic provided 15 points, 2 rebounds, and 6 assists.
He barely played for three minutes, yet he managed to score four points and grab a rebound.

Poor scoring night for Joel Embiid
Tobias Harris led the 76ers in scoring tonight with 21 points.
For the 76ers, he had 4 rebounds and an assist.
Danny Green was the only other member of the starting lineup to reach double digits with 11 points, 4 rebounds, and an assist.
Ben Simmons and Seth Curry each scored 8 points against the starters.
