Giselle Fernandez was born on May 15, 1961, in East Los Angeles, California.
She earned a B.A. in Journalism from California State University, Sacramento in 1982.
The 57-year-old anchor began her career in television in 1983 at KRDO-TV and KEYT-TV.
After being suggested by actor Fess Parker, she joined KTLA as a reporter and weekend anchor in 1985.
Giselle subsequently went to CBS-owned WBBM-TV in Chicago and, in 1989, to CBS’s newly acquired station, WCIX.
Giselle began her career in national journalism in October 1991 as a backup anchor and correspondent for CBS News’ morning, primetime, and weekend newscasts.
She later joined NBC, where she anchors the weekend version of the Today Show and fills in for Brian Williams on NBC Nightly News.
During her time covering national news, Giselle covered the upheaval in Haiti, t
