Gerald began his professional mixed martial arts career in 2007. He also had a 1-0 amateur mixed martial arts record.

Gerald fought most of his fights at the Freestyle Combat Challenge in the beginning of his career. In 2007, he won his first MMA match, two months after losing his first match to Jay Ellis.

Gerald, meanwhile, decided to join the Madtown Throwdown promotion after his last freestyle fight in 2008. Gerald undoubtedly won the match with a rare-neck choke.

Despite his long involvement in MMA, Meerschaert did not fight in a cage match until 2009. He was defeated by Kenny Robertson in his first cage match, which he lost via kneebar.

Then the match was rescheduled for September 2020, but Gerald again withdrew due to some unknown reasons, and John Allan Arte replaced him.

However, the match that gave Gerald the maximum number of footage was with Khazmat Chimaev. Unfortunately, Gerald lost the game in just 17 seconds, which became the talk of the town.

At the beginning of 2021, he faced Khamzat Chimaev at UFC Fight Night: Covington vs. Woodley. Gerald lost the fight after 17 seconds due to a knockout in round one.

Similarly, after fighting against Bartosz Fabiński at UFC on ESPN 22, he won the match via technical submission in round one.

Meerschaert is scheduled to face Abusupiyan Magomedov on December 18, 2021, at UFC Fight Night 199.

As of now, Gerald Meerschaert has not been linked with anyone.

Although rumors of him being in a relationship arise from time to time, he has not confirmed any of this news.
