Early Career

As soon as he arrived at Peekskill High School, Elton was added to the varsity basketball squad.

He won the New York State Mr. Basketball award and was considered one of the top high school basketball players in the country.

Similar to how he helped his team win two state championships, he rose to basketball hero status in Peekskill.

He received many universities offers as a result of his stellar high school career.

He made the decision, out of many others, to enroll at Duke University and play for the Duke collegiate basketball team.

His basketball abilities were well-known throughout the entire country in addition to the institution.

He was given the title of National Player of the Year by consensus as a result.

After his second year at Duke, he ultimately decided to leave and enter the 1999 NBA draft to begin his career in the NBA.

NASCAR Career

Elton began his NBA career when the Chicago Bulls selected him first overall in the 1999 NBA Draft on June 30, 1999.

He soon established himself as the team’s cornerstone player, and at All-Star Weekend, the Rookie Challenge’s most valuable player was chosen for him.

He shared the NBA Rookie of the Year award with Steve Francis of the Houston Rockets.

For most of the 2000–01 season, Brand was viewed as the new Chicago dynasty’s rising star.

But in June 2001, Elton was traded to the Los Angeles Clippers despite his outstanding play with the franchise.

Brand, though, was an excellent addition to the Clippers and was the first member of that team since Danny Manning in 1994.

He was given a six-year, $82 million contract by the Miami Heat in 2003, but the Clippers couldn’t afford to let him leave, so they offered him the same deal to keep him with them.

In light of Brand’s continued record-breaking success, it was a prudent choice. He was selected for the 2006 NBA All-Star Game and a leading candidate for NBA MVP that year.

He also received the Joe Dumars Trophy and the NBA Sportsmanship Award in 2005–2006.

Before announcing his retirement from the NBA on August 11, 2015, Brand played for the Philadelphia 76ers for four years, the Dallas Mavericks for a year, and the Atlanta Hawks for two years.

Brand, however, came out of retirement on January 4, 2016, to rejoin the NBA and re-sign with the Philadelphia 76ers.

But on October 20, 2016, he officially announced his retirement from the NBA after 10 months of competition.

Worldwide Career

Elton has competed for the United States in a variety of international competitions and has received numerous honors and accolades around the world.

He first represented the USA in the 1998 Goodwill Games in New York, when he helped the nation capture the gold medal.

Elton also helped the USA win another gold at the 1999 FIBA Americas Championship. He took part in the same competition again in 2003, this time succeeding in taking home the gold.

Additionally, he competed for the USA at the 2006 FIBA World Championship and won a bronze medal.

Post-Retirement

On December 6, 2016, Brand received an offer to serve as the Philadelphia 76ers’ player development consultant following his resignation as a player.

On August 28, 2017, he was then appointed General Manager of the Delaware 87ers (now Delaware Blue Coats).

On September 20, 2018, he was additionally elevated to general manager of the Philadelphia 76ers.

Out of Court

EltonBrand Foundation is a nonprofit organization that Brand founded in 2000.

His charity supports single-parent households, kids’ participation in sports, and after-school educational initiatives in Los Angeles.

Brand is also the president and a founding member of Gibraltar Films.

It is a production firm that finances, buys, develops, and releases motion pictures.

The 2007 film Rescue Dawn was the inaugural endeavor of Gibraltar Films.

The Werner Herzog-helmed film is based on the survival tale of a US pilot who was imprisoned in a Vietnamese prison.

Elton was present for the Toronto International Film Festival’s premiere of the movie as well.

Elton Brand was wed to Shahara, his longtime partner. In North Carolina in 2006, the pair were hitched.

They were best friends in college and went to Duke University together. But after nine years of marriage, the couple divorced in 2015.

After divorcing his ex-wife, Elton has been single. Elton Peace Brand, his first son, was born in 2008, and a second child was born in 2012.
