Early Life and Childhood

Elliotte Friedman was born on September 27, 1970, in Toronto, Ontario, Canada. Elliotte’s age is 51.

His father was a certified public accountant, and his mother worked as a bookkeeper. His father remarried after his mother died, and he grew up with his sister and two step-sisters.

In 1994, Friedman began his journalism career at Toronto sports radio station The Fan 590.

In 1998, he did radio and television play-by-play for Toronto Raptors games and reported on Toronto Blue Jays games. He also freelanced for the London Free Press and the Toronto Star.

He was named Telemedia Reporter of the Year in 1996.

Elliotte worked for The Score before joining CBC Sports in 2003. At SBC Sports, he worked as a reporter for Hockey Night in Canada.

He also studio hosted the CFL’s final two seasons on CBC, as well as some Toronto Raptors games. Elliotte was one of the reporters who covered the Olympic Games for the CBC.

Furthermore, he joined the CFL in 2006, following Brian Williams’ departure from CTV/TSN.

In 2011, he received the Best Sports Reporting Gemini Award for his outstanding work on Hockey Night in Canada’s Heritage Classic.

Elliotte was hired by Sportsnet to continue his role after Rogers Media acquired exclusive national media rights to the NHL and began producing Hockey Night for CBC.

He also took part in CBC’s coverage of the diving and swimming events at the 2016 Summer Olympics.

He rose to prominence after making an error in his commentary of the Men’s 200-meter individual medley final, in which Micahel Phelps won instead of his rival Rayan Lochte.
