Billy Gardell’s Weight Gain Struggle
Billy Gardell, a guy with some health issues and poor habits, has always been quitting things and staying healthy.
He even mentioned it in his July 2019 interview with Wicked Local Cambridge, saying,
I feel like I’ve spent my entire life quitting things.
However, as previously said, one of his major issues was his inability to shed weight.
When he weighed about 350 pounds, the problem was at its peak.
He even admitted it when he declared, “I gained fat,” in an August 2011 interview with the East Valley Tribune.
In addition, he responded to an article by Marie Claire, who wrote that witnessing two overweight people having a romance was repulsive, citing the actor’s role in the TV show Mike & Molly (2010-16).
“You think I’ve never heard fat jokes before?” he responded.
I learned a long time ago in life that, okay, some people aren’t going to like your face. That’s their specialty.”
However, it was not about how nice he looked in front of the camera for the 51-year-old actor.
Instead, it was about living a healthy lifestyle and spending as much time as possible with his son, William Gardell.
Billy Gardell’s Good Decisions During His Weight Loss Journey
Billy Gardell native resolved to change everything and lose weight after weighing about 350 pounds and understanding the situation wasn’t good for his health.
During the same interview with the East Valley Tribune, he stated that he had been making efforts to lose weight and had worked with a therapist and a dietitian to keep mass under control, despite setbacks.
“There are those days when I feel like rolling about in a pizza,” he said, adding more details about those unpleasant times.
I’m striving to ensure that the good days outnumber the bad.”
Despite a few setbacks, his weight-loss journey was still on track.
And, during an appearance on The Late Late Show with Craig Ferguson, the actor stated that he has shed 45 pounds and would like to lose another 30 pounds.
Gardell’s weight loss struggle continued as he continued to follow dietary programs and other procedures.
In a June 2015 interview with the Tampa Bay Times, the Sun Records actor confirmed that he had shed 70 pounds and will lose another 80 pounds.
He also discussed some of the factors that led to his weight loss.
“I wanted to be there for my child,” he explained. And my knees are giving out, guy.
I need to lose some of this weight. I’ve shed 70 pounds, but I still have 80 to go.”
Type 2 Diabetes Journey
In mid-2017, the 5 feet 11-inch-tall actor went in for a routine checkup.
At the same time, his doctor opted to perform a full battery of blood tests.
Although everything appeared to be normal at first, the results astounded Gardell.

When the results arrived, his doctor informed him that his A1C level was 7.2% and that he had type 2 diabetes.
The outcomes astounded him. But he wasn’t the one who gave up.
By 2020, he had already made several additional sacrifices to maintain his weight and manage his type 2 diabetes.
He finished Novo Nordisk’s transition program to further manage his diabetes in March 2020.
While in that program, he started using Ozempic, an injectable non-insulin medicine.
Furthermore, his consumption of good food and exercise aided him in his quest.
Everything appears to be well in Billy Gardell’s life right now, and he appears to be fitter and healthier than ever.
