revealed that she and her fiancé were expecting their first child last year, but she miscarried.
Gardner felt it was important for her to share her story with other women,
even though she found it difficult to talk about.
Her desire to help women who have had miscarriages feel less alone was evident
when she opened up to the girls of The Real about how difficult 2020 was for her personally.
In an interview with People on March 2, 2021, the actress discussed the sad loss she
and her future husband suffered last year in further detail.
“I was so full of delight,” she said, adding that she had already begun preparing and was even using a name.
When Gardner went in for her three-month visit, her doctor was unable to discover her baby’s heartbeat.
“When the doctor told me he couldn’t hear my baby’s heartbeat, my world froze,” she told People.
The Queen Sugar actress also expressed her and her fiancé’s heartbreak.

When Queen Sugar actress Gardner’s character as Charley Bordelon
was omitted from the Season 7 teaser, fans were left wondering
what had become of the middle Bordelon sister.
Variety stated at the time that Gardner will not participate in all 13 episodes of the last season as a series regular.
They pointed out that at the end of Season 6, the character made her reconciliation
with her estranged husband, Davis West, played by Timon Kyle Durrett,
more formal by accepting his remarriage proposal and relocating to Los Angeles.
Gardner confirmed her absence from the show’s final production on Instagram before the season debut.
“I will always love portraying the woman I’ve put my heart into for six years,
known to the world as Charley Bordelon – as well as the opportunity to
work alongside so many wonderful artists,” she captioned her photo.
Gardner’s Queen Sugar family expressed their support for the actor in the comments section following his announcement.
“We Love You,” Durrett wrote. “I LOVE YOU FOREVER,” Nicholas L. Ashe, who plays Gardner’s son Micah, said.
