By 1993, the Pennsylvania native had established himself as one of the greatest coaches in the country.
As a result, on January 19, 1993, the Chicago Bears hired Dave as their head coach to replace the iconic Mike Ditka.
Wannstedt was immediately put under intense pressure to emulate Ditka’s prior work.

Unfortunately, Wannstedt, along with the rest of the Bills coaching staff, was fired after just one year on the job due to poor performance.
Following that, the Pennsylvania native joined the Tampa Bay Buccaneers as their special team’s coach, but, as has been the case in the past, Dave was let go at the end of the 2013 season.
Wannstedt’s 20-year professional coaching career ended with the 2013 season, and he has not been involved in football since.
