Early Career

The beginning of Daniel Hooker’s professional MMA career was in 2009. He competed in New Zealand prior to joining the UFC and won by six points.

Hooker won the King in the Ring Middleweight Kickboxing Championship and WKBF X-Rules Welterweight Championship with a kickboxing debut kickboxing record of 9-1-3.

Thomas Kwok and Bass Khou were defeated by Dan in the ICNZ Contender Series 1 No-Gi Submission Wrestling Tournament. A guillotine choke was his winning move.

In the UFC

On June 28, 2014, Hooker made his first UFC debut against Ian Entswide, a competitor making his debut as well. Hooker was already a professional kickboxer and MMA fighter.

It’s true that Dan won the match through Technical Knockout (TKO) in the opening frame.

Similar to that, on May 10, 2015, at Fight Night 65, Dan prevailed in his matchup with Hatsu Hioki.

Hooker got his Performance of the Night bonus and became the first fighter to knock Hioki out in an MMA match with a head kick and punch combination maneuver.

Furthermore, on October 3, 2015, at UFC Fight Night 85, Hooker faced off against Yair Rodriguez and prevailed. A mounted guillotine choke with a high elbow was his winning maneuver.

He faced Ross Pearson on June 11, 2017, at Fight Night 110, and sure enough, Hooker prevailed by knockout in the second round. Hooker received his second performance bonus for that match.

So, on December 30, 2017, at Fight Night 219, he submitted Marc Diakiese with a guillotine choke in the third round.

At UFC 219, Diakiese faced Dan on December 30, 2017. He was submitted in the third round by guillotine choke.

Similar to this, Hooker defeated Jim Miller and Gilbert Burns by knockout at UFC 128 and UFC 226 in 2018.

Dan also triumphed in the following three games. He defeated James Vick in the opening round on July 20, 2019, at UFC on ESPN, earning his third Performance of the Night bonus.

Similar to that, Hooker defeated Al LaQuinta in a fight on October 6, 2019, at Fight Night 243, winning by unanimous decision.

UFC defeats

In UFC Fight Night 52 on September 20, 2014, Hooker faced professional wrestler Maximo Blanco from Venezuela. Hooker was defeated by a unanimous decision.

Additionally, he was defeated by Jason Knighton by a unanimous decision at UFC Fight Night 101 on November 27, 2016.

Similar to how Hooker was technically eliminated by Edson Barboza in the third round of UFC on Fox 31 on December 15, 2018. It was the first time in MMA history that Hooker has lost a match by strikes.

He recently suffered a defeat against Dustin Poirier at UFC on ESPN, on June 27, 2020. He yet won the Fight of the Night prize.

Not to mention that Hooker had to spend a few days in the hospital after being seriously hurt during the fight with Poirier.
