Who is Daiya Seto?

Daiya Seto is a short and long course world champion in butterfly, breaststroke, individual medley, and freestyle. Daiya Seto’s specialty, though, is individual medley and butterfly.

Takahide Mabuchi’s daughter, Yuka Mabuchi, is a well-known diving coach.

Yuka was drawn to diving and swimming from a young age, following in her father’s footsteps.

Her first Hikomi (a popular Japanese diving competition) was when she was six years old.

She did, however, proclaim her retirement after her marriage to Seto.

While she stated that marriage had no influence on her decision, Seto stated that she was weary of competing and desired something else for herself.

The couple met and fell in love at a swimming competition. On May 24, 2017, Seto announced their engagement on Instagram.

On October 1, that year, a lavish wedding reception was hosted at a Toko hall.

Yuwa, the couple’s first child, was born on June 26, 2018. They will have another daughter in March 2020.

Scandal Over Extramarital Affairs

On September 23, the Japanese news site ‘Daily Shinco’ published an article on the renowned swimmer, which shocked admirers.

Daiya Seto was seen with his fiancée in a specific hotel, and he was accused of having an extramarital affair.

Seto came forward the next day and admitted to the claims.

He then admitted to having an extramarital affair and apologized to his friends and family.

However, it was insufficient to bring the turmoil to a halt. According to reports, he had affairs with more than one woman.

• Suspension of activities throughout the year, such as participation in official JSF events, training camps, and international tours.

• Participation in the Future Japan Swimming Federation education program, the JOC integrity education program, the basic training program, and so on.

Needless to say, he was reviled by Japanese fans, the media, and the sports community.

On the other side, the public was taken aback to see an athlete handled harshly for non-criminal conduct such as infidelity.

According to Japanese citizens, Japan places a strong importance on family and ethics.
