Carly Ritter’s Family Sued The Hospital For Her Father’s Death

In 2004, about a year after Ritter’s father, John, died unexpectedly, his widow sued the doctors and Providence St Joseph Medical Center, claiming her husband died because they misdiagnosed him with a heart attack instead of a torn aorta.

In his opening remarks, Moses Lebovits, an attorney for the Ritter family, stated in court that doctors failed to perform a chest X-ray on Ritter.

Lebovits explained at the time how this maneuver would have revealed the torn aorta and possibly saved the comic actor’s life.

However, the defendants for the radiologist, Matthew Lotysch, and the cardiologist, Joseph Lee, argued that John arrived at the hospital in critical condition.

They insisted that their team did everything possible to keep him alive.

In the end, the Ritter family reportedly settled their case against the hospital and several other defendants for an undisclosed sum of $14 million.

Four years later, Carly’s stepmother, John’s widow, filed a lawsuit for $67 million, the amount she claimed her husband would have earned over his lifetime.

Yasbeck specifically targeted a cardiologist and a radiologist at the ER.

Two years before her husband died, the concerned professionals performed a body scan on him.

Carly Ritter Had A Gene Test?

After learning that the cause of her husband’s death had a lot to do with his genetics and a subsequent miscalculation, the Wings actress, Yasbeck, took a revolutionary approach to prevent her children — including John’s children from his previous relationship — from suffering the same fate.

Ms. Ritter began working with Dr. Milewicz and her UT-Houston team in February 2010 to study the genes that caused her spouse’s death.

The Splash Too actress and her team of specialists persuaded tens of thousands of people to collect their gene samples and see if they were predisposed to the same conditions as her late husband.

Following a thorough investigation, the findings highlighted and isolated four genes linked to aortic aneurysms.

Among the subjects were Yasbeck’s daughter Stella and John’s three older children.

Their findings, however, were never revealed.
