Buccaneers of Tampa Bay

2014

Cameron signed a three-year free-agent contract with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers on May 21, 2014, after finishing his college football career at Harvard.

The contract was valued at $1.53 million, including a $3 thousand signing bonus.

Throughout training camp, Brate had to contend for a roster position as a backup tight end. On November 25, 2014, the Tampa Bay Buccaneers upgraded Brate to their active roster.

Following the roster’s formation, Lovie Smith, the team’s then-head coach, assigned Brate to the fifth tight-end spot on the depth chart.

Brate also had his first professional appearance in a regular-season game on November 30, 2014, when he caught his first 17-yard pass in a 14-13 loss to the Cincinnati Bengals in Week 13.

After teammates Austin Seferian-Jenkins, Luke Stocker, and Brandon Myers were injured and placed on the disabled list, Brate got his first career start.

In five games and one start, he concluded his 2014 rookie season with one reception for 17 yards.

2015

Brate pushed for a roster position against Tim Wright and Evan Rodriguez even after his professional debut. Keep in mind that Brate was brought in as a backup tight end for the 2015 season.

New Orleans Saints

The New Orleans Saints signed Brate to their practice team on September 16, 2015, after the Buccaneers granted him a waiver.

Jason Licht, the Buccaneers’ general manager, told ESPN that sending Cam Brate was his worst move.

On September 22, 2015, the Tampa Bay Buccaneers re-signed Brate from the New Orleans Saints. It was a $510,000 one-year deal.

Furthermore, on January 6, 2016, the Tampa Bay Buccaneers fired head coach Lovie Smith and promoted Dirk Koetter as head coach.

Cameron battled for the starting tight end position against Austin Seferian-Jenkins as a backup tight end.

Additionally, Brate and Luke Stocker were named to the starting tight end lineup by new head coach Dirk Koetter to begin the regular season.

In a 37–32 loss against the Los Angeles Rams, Brate hauled in five catches for 56 yards and two scores.

In a 38–33 loss to the Arizona Cardinals in Week 6, Brate had a season-high six catches for 76 receiving yards and one touchdown reception.

2018

Brate also inked a six-year contract worth $40.8 million with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers on March 12, 2018, which included a guaranteed value of $18 million.

Brate didn’t have to battle for the starting tight end spot this time. Dirk Koetter, the head coach, elected to keep Brate and O.J. Howard will start the regular season as the starting tight end.

Brate ended the 2018 season with 30 receptions for 289 yards and six touchdown receptions.

2019 and 2020
