The Buss siblings were taken aback by Lee’s outreach to them despite her sincere desire to reconnect with her long-lost siblings. They were also shocked to learn that their parents had never introduced or even brought up their oldest sibling.

Jeanie Buss, the controlling owner of the Los Angeles Lakers, received a letter in December 2018 from someone claiming to be Buss’ long-lost sibling.

Lee introduced herself and expressed a desire to get to know her mother and the rest of her siblings.

After reading the letter, Jeanie was astonished and said that she wasn’t sure whether to believe Lee or not, in part because she had previously heard so many unrelated persons claim to be her father’s long-lost child.

Dr. Jerry Buss and JoAnn Mueller’s first child, Lee, was born in 1953.

According to her adoption documents, she was given up for adoption because her parents lacked the time, money, and resources to raise her in the manner they believed she deserved.

Jerry, who did not yet own the Lakers, was aware of his difficulty in providing for his child in 1953.

Buss wanted to avoid giving his first child the same difficult upbringing as he endured.

“She was able to obtain a copy of her birth certificate, which she sent. Therefore, I recognized my parents’ autographs right away. She provided duplicates of her photo. She resembled my mother exactly. My mother had told me a story about how, before Johnny was born, she and my father had a child and had given her up for adoption ”

In the documentary Legacy: The True Story of the Los Angeles Lakers’ last episode, Jeanie Buss made a revelation.

The Buss kids were taken by surprise.

The other Buss siblings were all shocked to learn about their long-lost sister when Jeanie recounted Lee’s letter and documentation to them.

Only Jeanie knew anything about Lee; the others did not.

Lee’s only desire was to see her mother, who was also experiencing her final days due to a protracted illness.

Lee didn’t expect anything in return from the Buss family, not even money.

The Buss siblings were taken aback, despite Lee’s good intentions, not just by his outreach but also by the realization that their parents had never introduced or even brought up their oldest sibling.

“I was initially shocked. My parents kept it a secret all of the time. She is a complete sibling, but because of my dad’s lifestyle, I’ve always questioned if I have any other siblings ” According to Janie Buss (Jeanie’s sister).

According to Johny Buss, “Either they were very ashamed about a falsehood that got too huge to speak the truth or you know, they simply felt like it was best unsaid.”

“The fact that Jerry Buss never brought it up baffled me. Even the private things he told me are too private for me to share. If such a thing exists, I would undoubtedly believe it, “said Jim Buss.

The missing child

Lee, on the other hand, acknowledged that she knew nothing about the Buss family or where they may be.

When her teacher informed her classmates about her status in the third grade, she discovered that she had been adopted.

Long after being harmed, Lee admitted that she had been wondering about her mother and whether she had ever considered Lee.

The oldest child acknowledged that she used the Buss family’s DNA to establish a connection with them.

“… In 2017, a television commercial urged viewers to “donate a present to an ancestor,” prompting the question, “Oh, should I do that?” I, therefore, collected the kit, spit into it, sent it out, and prayed. I truly only wanted to meet my mum, it was all I wanted to do “Lee murmured.

“Since my middle name and my sister’s middle name are both Marie, my mom’s statement that “In my mind, I named her Marie” remained with me. I was aware that this was true. Marie was in this, “said Jeanie.

A few days before her mother’s passing, Lee finally met her.

Also making friends with Jeanie and learning more about the Buss family was the oldest child.

She acknowledged that being placed for adoption had harmed her, but she eventually forgave her parents since, after all, family is what matters most in the world.
