Early Life and Childhood

Brooks Wheelan was born on August 21, 1986, in Cedar Rapids, Iowa, United States of America. Brooks has the age 35.

He was born in Cedar Rapids, Iowa to Chris and Jim Wheelan, but grew up in Manchester, Iowa. His interests as a child were primarily in science and mathematics. Brooks performed frequently in Iowa City during his college years.

Brooks Wheelan graduated from Dubuque Hempstead High School in Dubuque, Iowa, where he was crowned homecoming king.

The comedian earned a biomedical engineering degree from the University of Iowa in 2009.

Wheelan previously appeared on Saturday Night Live. Brooks was a stand-up comedian in Los Angeles before joining Saturday Night Live.

At the same time, he worked as a biomedical engineer, conducting research on eyes and heart valves.

During the 2013-2014 season, he worked as a writer for Saturday Night Live. Brooks was added to the cast the week before the season premiered.

On October 24, 2017, he launched the Entry Level podcast. In each episode of the podcast, Brooks interviews a guest about their previous jobs, which were often low-paying or undesirable, before finding success in the entertainment industry.

The commentary on the Bruce Willis/Katy Perry episode centered on having tattoos with no meaning, with Brooks displaying three tattoos he had as a child.

He has a tribal stamp on his left arm that was designed to resemble Anthony Kiedis of Red Hot Chili Peppers. Brooks also has a nautical star on his right arm and a strange oceanscape on his side.

The latter was inspired by a doodle drawn by Brook during his freshman year of high school. Because he grew up in Iowa, a non-coastal state, the tattoo no longer makes sense to him.

He was a regular on Saturday Night Live’s Weekend Update segment. Brooks’ stand-up routines served as public service announcements against irresponsible behavior.

The Anna Kendrick / Pharrell Williams episode’s commentary focused on the dangers of drinking alcohol and the story of Brooks’ friends putting butter down his pants after he blacked out drunk.

Brooks was concerned that his friend was dying from an unknown sexually transmitted disease.

On July 14, 2014, the comedian announced via Twitter that he was no longer a cast member of Saturday Night Live. “FIRED FROM NEW YORK IT’S SATURDAY NIGHT!” wrote Brooks.

However, Brooks later admitted that he was not angry and that he remained close to some of the cast members. He went on to say that he prefers standing.
